…including what I’ve done with my hair ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  [Email Stars Backstage Edition]( is now enrolling. It’s capped at 20 students and, if you’re seeing this, there are a few spots left. I’m offering quick chats in case you need to ask questions first and figure out if you’re a fit. [You can book a call here](. Oh, hey {NAME} 👋🏼 Every month I write a recap email for a small subset of subscribers who’ve elected to get emails from me just once a month. (You can change the frequency of emails anytime by clicking one of the links at the bottom of this email.) Writing those monthly recaps is a chance to reflect on the work I’ve actually done, and I always feel proud after. I’m really getting into the groove of having a smaller, artisanal business. In the November recap I got to share with my subscribers that I… - Hosted [two live calls]( confronting some troubling practices in the coaching industry (individual replay links below) - Ran a profitable Black Friday promo with just two emails and a couple of P.S. reminders - Put all of my offers on the table in a single email, which I haven’t done in forever (forgot to include [The Course Launch Copy Kit]( - Am filling the [latest version of Email Stars]( with supremely low-effort strategies and enjoying being in promo-mode for the first time in a long time—I have a secret goal to fill it without sending a single sales email and it feels doable. It was new to host calls without all the team support, registration pages and show up emails. All I did was send a simple invite saying “hey, this is happening” plus a reminder in the morning before the call. My bestie held the chat for me, and I was glad she was there. The topic is so loaded that it would’ve been irresponsible not to have support. The feedback made me really happy/sad. It was surprising how many people did not know that they’d been manipulated and preyed upon, who were blaming themselves for not seeing the success they’d been promised. Here are the video replays: - [Part One: State of Online Marketing In The Coaching Industry]( - [Part Two: The Future of Courses, Automated Webinars and Selling]( I hope you’ll take the time to watch those calls, whether you’re a coach or someone who has invested in coaching. I uploaded them to a [private podcast feed]( if you want to queue them up on your favourite podcast app and listen on the go. As one of my subscribers said, “Understanding the tactics of persuasion that were used and how I was susceptible to them is immensely helpful in learning how to trust myself to make purchasing decisions again. And to stop beating myself up for ‘failing’ to move my business forward this past year.” So…please watch it! Two other important things happened this month that I only remembered to mention as I was writing my monthly update. I decided to dial back my Substack publication schedule to once per month to make space for writing my book—then I did ZERO new writing for my book, but I did manage to produce an 1800-word excerpt to be published in the second edition of Janja Lalich’s seminal book on cult recovery, Take Back Your Life. Janja is a world-renowned cult expert so I was honoured she asked me to contribute. I shared the Coles Notes on my indoctrination into the coaching industry, the harm I have done as a copywriter and coach, and traced it back to my roots in The Brethren, the Christian fundamentalist cult I was raised in. For the first time ever, I actually named the cult leader that I coached with for a year, something I haven’t felt safe enough to do anywhere else, tho people ask me all the time. I don’t know when it will be released, or if my excerpt will make it through the final stages of editing, but writing it was really cathartic, as writing my story always is, even if no one reads it. It feels like I say this at the end of every email but I really mean it—Thanks for being on the journey with me. Tarzan P.S. Here is a hair update for all of the subscribers who were worried about me after [my last email](. I’m feeling my bad bitch hotness again. Want to access your fave emails on the go? Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
