I decided to run last year because I saw a better future for Manhattan â one where noncitizens are shown the same justice and empathy that I experienced at the airport that night. One where we use our resources to really put public safety first, and stop prosecutions that only exacerbate the deeply embedded race, gender, and income biases in our country. One where we say enough is enough to gender-based violence and meet all of the needs of the people who survive this violence. One where gun violence, hate crimes in all its forms, and economic crimes are treated with the seriousness and attention they deserve. And one where the cityâs recovery from the pandemic is rooted in safety and opportunity. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of Team Tali volunteers and supporters like you, team, we were able to spread our message of safety, fairness, and justice for all â and we did this in the most challenging of circumstances, in a city still reeling from the challenges of this past year. We raised awareness about New Yorkâs toughest problems, looked them in the eye, and offered real, concrete solutions to improve the lives of all New Yorkers. And together, we built a broad coalition of support from one corner of Manhattan to the other, sweeping in women and men from every community, attracting an army of young people determined to make change, and earning endorsements from a former Secretary of State, the 82nd Attorney General of the United States, U.S. Representatives, activists, community and political leaders, top legal minds, womenâs rights organizations, and respected publications. We are currently in second place, behind by 3%, but with over 35,000 absentee and affidavit ballots to be opened, this race will not be over until every vote is counted. And regardless of what comes next, I will always be so proud of, and grateful for, this team. Thank you for all youâve done to support me in this campaign. And an extra, special thank you to my family, who have always been my biggest supporters and were, hands down, the best campaigners I could ever ask for â I love you.
