After one week in court, Habba remarked that the president's case is very strong, asserting that the presiding judge erred in ruling that the Trump real estate empire significantly inflated the value of properties like Mar-a-Lago for favorable business deals. Former President Trump has characterized the trial as part of a broader "witch hunt" orchestrated by Democratic prosecutors like James, who he alleges are weaponizing the courts to hinder his chances in the next year's general election against a weakened President Joe Biden. Habba stated, "This court, which we strongly believe we shouldn't have been in, we've been fighting hard. And I've gotta tell you: their key witness, you know, came up, he said frankly everything I wanted him to say perfectly, and I looked over, and I think that we're doing very well, and it's not going to go so well for Letitia James." She continued, "At the end of the day, the Trump Organization did nothing wrong, and they're using a consumer fraud statute inappropriately against a private business. It's not supposed to happen, and it's a very scary precedent for New Yorkers." WATCH: In her role as the public face of President Trump's legal team, Habba has often taken an aggressive stance in media interviews. She has criticized Jack Smith, the special counsel from the Biden Justice Department, for utilizing Civil War-era laws against her client and called out Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis for updating her campaign website shortly before charging Trump with interference in the state's election. When Smith initially indicted President Trump on charges of illegally obtaining classified documents from the White House, Habba promptly announced her intention to depose FBI agents who ordered Mar-a-Lago staff to disable security cameras during their search for the documents. Throughout all five cases against him, President Trump has consistently maintained his innocence. However, the efforts led by Habba and her team have come at a substantial cost to Trump, his co-defendants, and the prosecutors. President Trump recently held a fundraiser, charging $100,000 per attendee, to support the 18 individuals facing charges alongside him in Georgia.
