For many people, social media seems to come naturally. For myself and many other entrepreneurs trying to grow their business — not so much. I was told to be consistent. I wasn’t. I was told to be engaging. I didn’t know how. I was told to create sharable content. What was that? If you’ve ever struggled with what to post on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, TikTok, or Twitter (X), I have two things for you: - I’m here to let you know that you’re not alone. Being constantly exposed to the best content on these platforms often leaves us feeling less than adequate about our own work. THANKS ALGORITHMS. - I figured out a way to alleviate uncertainty about what to post on social media, and I’ll share that process with you in this newsletter. If you’ve been stuck on social, it’s time to get unstuck. Let’s do this. QUOTE OF THE WEEK “New marketing is about the relationships, not the medium.” ― Ben Grossman, founder of BiGMarK THE STORY “If this were easy, what would it look like?” That single question (which came from Tim Ferriss) has become the most valuable tool in my fight against overcomplicating, well, almost everything. And yes, that includes social media. Here’s the secret. Instead of trying to come up with some profound thought that will hopefully go viral or share some new discovery that will change the world, I decided I was simply going to use social media to display and amplify what I was already doing. I used to work on things and then share them. Now, I share the things while I am working on them in real-time. - When I get a new idea, I’ll share it, even if the idea isn’t fully fleshed out yet. In fact, the messier, the better. It creates conversation and wonder. - When I achieve some milestone with my work, I don’t just share the milestone. I also include the #1 most helpful thing that got me there, whatever it may be. - When I am met with hardships and even failure, I talk about it authentically, in real-time. - When I’m curious about something, I go on social media to ask what others think. It’s just what I’m doing when I’m doing it. It’s so simple and yet so powerful. No one in the world can copy my experiences in the moment. Therefore, posts automatically become 100% unique and interesting as opposed to the regurgitated stuff that’s just adding to the noise. And the beauty of this is that because they’re thoughts you already have and experiences you’ve just lived, creating a short piece of content becomes easier. You can use that extra brainpower to optimize the content by telling a better story, adding more visuals, or incorporating numbers. Whatever it is, the more reps you take just sharing, the better you’ll get and the more reach you’ll have. Now get out of your own way and share. You got this.
