Don’t let FOMO lead to a massive time suck.  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Issue #47 | July 18th, 2023 Hi there, it's Pat! 👋 At this point, it’s been about 2 weeks since Threads debuted, the new “Twitter-like” social media platform by Meta that connects to your Instagram account. Whether you got on the bandwagon immediately or not, I’m not going to tell you whether you’re right or wrong. I’m also not going to try to convince you to join, and I’m not going to tell you you’re wasting your time on it, either. Instead, I’m going to ask you a question… Did you have a plan? A plan? For what? A plan for when a new platform or technology enters the scene and the wave spreads so quickly, it hits you in the face before you know exactly what it is. ChatGPT was the most recent “mass adoption thing,” and before that, Clubhouse felt the exact same way during the pandemic. If you join or take action just because others are doing it, the consequences can be tremendous. The time you could waste without even knowing it could hold you back from making progress, or worse, put you behind even more. You need a plan for moments like these. I’ll share mine, and then you can come up with a plan of your own. Let’s get unstuck. QUOTE OF THE WEEK “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” - Alan Lakein THE STORY Threads is not the last social media platform or “big tech thing” that’s going to make massive waves, so it’s important to be prepared. Like paddling out to go surfing, waves can hit you hard and push you back, or you can push your board down and let the wave fly over your head, only to re-emerge above the surface and continue to move forward. The trick is, how do we know what waves to take and which ones to let pass us by? FOMO (fear of missing out) is a real thing, and I think we all can understand that feeling of not wanting to get left behind. In business specifically, there’s fear around the possibility of missing a chance to become an early adopter and take advantage of an immediate opportunity. With that said, I wanted to equip you with what I had to learn myself, the hard way — questions to ask yourself that behave as filters. A filter not only keeps what you want and removes what you don’t, it also slows you down just enough to get to the good stuff (if there is any). That’s the purpose of these questions. When a new “thing” makes waves, ask yourself the following: 1. If I were to use this, how would it actually help me, if at all? This question needs an honest answer. Are we just looking at yet another shiny object, or is it something that could be proven useful and worth your time? 2. If I were to use this successfully, what am I measuring to determine that success? If we don’t know what to measure, we don’t know whether it’s working or not. By determining what to look out for, we’ll be able to decide whether it’s worth our time. 3. Could the success measured mentioned in #2 be achieved with any platforms or tools I already use? Imagine you’re hoping to use Threads to grow your email list (which is something you can measure success against, too). Good. However, if you determine that you could also grow your email list with your current social media platforms, but you’re not, what’s to say this new platform will be any different? Is it different, and if so, how? If that’s hard to answer, then you likely won’t experience anything different with the new “thing.” What needs to change, perhaps, isn’t the platform that you’re on, but what you’re doing on the platforms that you’re already on. Because remember, when you say yes to something new, it means that you’re also saying no to something else. All of these questions are here to challenge you — if you still feel Threads (or any other new platform or tech) is worth your while to trial, there’s nothing stopping you from trying. Which brings me to my final question… 4. How long will I give this until I assess whether or not to continue? For me, for a brand new thing, it’s usually 1-2 months. I want to give it a real chance (if I deem it worthy), but I also want to have a hard deadline so I know when to move on if it’s not successful for me. CALL TO ACTION Ask yourself the questions I outlined and see where your answers lie related to Threads (or any other “thing” that comes out in the future). Here are the questions one more time: 1. If I were to use this, how would it actually help me, if at all? 2. If I were to use this successfully, what am I measuring to determine that success? 3. Could the success measured mentioned in #2 be achieved with any platforms or tools I already use? 4. How long will I give this until I assess whether or not to continue? All the best, and good luck! SPONSORED BY CLICKFUNNELS Struggling to Get a Constant Flow of Customers? Test-Drive ClickFunnels For 30 Days FOR FREE!!! Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
