A student of mine, Paul, asked me the following question during office hours a couple of weeks ago. Maybe you can relate: “Pat, I’m 89 episodes deep into hosting my podcast. I’ve been at it for over a year and I promote the show on social media, and I’ve even been a guest on other podcasts, but I feel like I’m talking to the same 400-500 people every episode. It’s just not growing. I’m getting burnt out, and I’m stuck. What should I do?” If that resonates with you, then this is definitely an issue you’ll want to pay attention to. Whether you’re struggling with your podcast (like Paul), a YouTube channel, a blog, sales for your product, reviews for your book — it doesn’t matter. The advice I’m about to share will help you get unstuck. So let’s do it — let’s get unstuck. QUOTE OF THE WEEK “Different is better than better.” – Sally Hogshead THE STORY Paul’s situation is very common, not just for podcasters, but for any creator who has started something, kept going, and graduated from the honeymoon stage to the grind-it-out stage. It’s a frustrating place to be and it makes you wonder, “should I even keep going?” And my answer is… No. You shouldn’t keep doing the same thing, because what got you here won’t get you there. You must change something, and it requires a radical shift in your thinking and the actions that you take — if you keep doing the same things you’ve been doing, you’re going to keep getting the same results. You have to change it up to change it up. I’m not saying go back to square one or give up — not at all. What I’m saying is now that you’re here, you have a new starting point, one beyond where you were before (which is an advantage), and you’re ready to mix it up a bit. Interrupt that pattern to create a new one. In Paul’s case, he was so good at staying consistent with his podcast — running an interview every single week with the same types of guests — that eventually, and naturally, his reach plateaued. He leveled up from level zero to level one, which is definitely worth celebrating, but now that he was at level one, it was time to get to level two. To get there, it’s common at this stage to just think you need to do more of the same, only better. Better guests. Better questions. Better quality. But actually, that will only help you grow incrementally. A radical and bold mindset shift will force riskier decisions that will gain bigger results. And this is why most stay where they are — they’re too afraid to change things. They’re too afraid that they may not appease everyone or may get something wrong, so they play it safe, and the results are… safe. How much of you is trying to stay comfortable and safe, and how much of you is willing to take a risk to get the results you want? CALL TO ACTION 10x is easier than 2x. That’s what this is about, and that’s also the title of [a book by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy]() — one that was recommended to me by my good friend Michael Stelzner, and one that I want to recommend to you too. (Affiliate link.) Read or listen to it — it’ll really help you understand why you may not be growing relative to how much effort you’re putting into your work. If you’re anything like me, you’re going to get inspired, think differently, and get better results. At SPI, for example, we recently made the bold move to change direction and primarily offer community as our main product, not online courses. Yes, we still have online courses, but the same message that was working for years was plateauing, and our new [All-Access Pass](=), which enables “community-powered courses,” was born out of this redirection. It’s become one of the best decisions we’ve made as a company: both the bottom line and the feedback from our students are wildly different than they were before, and super validating. You got this! The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
