[The SMART Digest: Useful content, powerful tools, and exclusive deals from Pat Flynn and Smart Passive Income] Hi, {NAME}! We’re excited to announce that we’ve launched a brand new SPI Media podcast! We’re calling it Flops and each week we’re uncovering what happens when business plans go up in smoke, and what we can learn from sifting through the ashes. Hosted by Karen Beattie and Ray Sylvester, Flops, through highly produced storytelling (think NPR) and warm, revealing interviews, shines a light on the more difficult aspects of doing business — and how our guests climbed their way out of those ordeals. The first episodes of Flops are live, right now. [Listen to the first episode and subscribe here](). Have a great week and stay strong #TeamFlynn! Pat Flynn, Founder and CEO SPI TIP Email Marketing Create an Autoresponder Series to Share Valuable Content and Engage with Subscribers. An autoresponder series is just another fancy term for a number of automated pre-written emails that get sent to your subscribers in a sequential order. This is different than a broadcast email, which is a one-time message that gets sent to all of your subscribers at the same time. The problem is, many people use aggressive tactics in their autoresponder series, such as The Bait and Hook, in which valuable content is provided (bait), and then a product is promoted (hook). Another method is The Ground and Pound: after the initial welcome email, all of the other emails focus on aggressively selling a product. Here at SPI, we like to do autoresponders a different way. We named our autoresponder method “The Pat Flynn” only because this is how Pat has handled our autoresponder series from the beginning. We're pretty sure Pat's not the first one to do this, but it's not something we've seen used widely. The Pat Flynn works like this: As you can see, there are two components to the Pat Flynn autoresponder series: Content and Engagement. Content emails are tips and tricks that we provide to our subscribers that cannot be found anywhere else on our website. This helps to keep people on our list interested and wanting more. Beyond killer content, we try to engage with subscribers. This is something we don't see others doing, but we highly recommend it. By “engage” we mean actually trying to get a response from our subscribers in a few of the emails. An example of this includes asking subscribers what content they'd like to see on the blog or podcast. This makes people feel like they are involved and valued. When they hit "reply," it's a form of taking action, and any type of action taken by a subscriber is a win. NEWS AND UPDATES SPI 467: What Going on Sabbatical Can REALLY Do for Mental Health and Clarity with Kristen Bor On the show with me today is Kristen Bor, a travel blogger at BearfootTheory.com who did exactly that. She actually took a four-month-long sabbatical at the end of 2020, and doing so gave her some amazing perspective on her business, allowed her to create a healthier lifestyle for herself and her partner, and so much more. She's going to tell us all about how she did it and what she learned. [Listen Now]( AP 1163: How Do I Launch My Flagship Course and Earn More Doing Less Work? Today we have Derek James on the show.
