[The SMART Digest: Useful content, powerful tools, and exclusive deals from Pat Flynn and Smart Passive Income] Hi, {NAME}! I'm closing in on my 365th day in a row of The Income Steam, my Daily YouTube show I started when the pandemic began last year. It's gone by super fast, but it'll definitely be bittersweet as I end the daily stream to focus more on pre-recorded videos that can help the channel reach more people. I'll have a recap of all I've learned and the results of streaming for 365 days straight soon, but Monday, March 15th will be the big celebration with a 365 minute stream with some fun prizes, guests and giveaways! Come by any time during that time (9am - 3:05pm PT) to say hi and join in on the fun! Visit [patflynn.com/365]( on Monday to join. Have a great week, and stay strong #TeamFlynn! Pat Flynn, Founder and CEO SPI TIP Email Marketing Make Sure the Right People Are on Your Email List When it comes to your email list, think about quality, not just quantity. It is a sexy thing to say you have 100,000 subscribers, or even 10,000 subscribers, and promoting numbers like this can have a marketing benefit. But the benefit of having a big list is limited when all you’re doing is growing it with more people who aren’t that interested in what you’re talking about. The most important thing is to ensure you’re attracting the right kinds of subscribers. Many people are being dishonest when they claim to have lots of subscribers, because many of those subscribers may not be in their target audience. For example, some people run contests where they give away something popular but generic (like an iPad) in exchange for email addresses. You can massively grow your email list this way . . . but you’re going to end up with a ton of people who are only joining your list to win the iPad. When you eventually try to get them to open emails down the road, many of them are not going to engage with you. That’s because they’re not the right fit for your business. You have to think about why people should want to subscribe to your email list. Don't ask people to subscribe to your email list just to get your newsletter. Even if the newsletter contains “exclusive” content, it’s still just more information. You’re essentially saying, “Hey, please subscribe, so I can send you more emails.” You need to provide a clear, relevant incentive for people to sign up. Then, when they open that first email you send, and every email after that, they will continue to see the value in subscribing to your list. (If you don’t know exactly what to send people once you’ve started building your list with the right kinds of subscribers, check out the Email Marketing Cheat Sheet, SPI's free guide with ten different templates you can use to send compelling emails that will help you engage with, learn from, and deliver value to your audience). Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
