Getting started before you're ready is definitely worth the risk Hi there, If you’ve been reading all the things we here at Skillcrush have to say about working in tech, my hope is that you’ve heard us talk about the importance of getting started before you feel ready, continuous learning, and most importantly, always looking for ways to improve. In addition to preaching this philosophy, I try very hard to live it. Try and hard being the operative words. Because, guess what? Living this philosophy means doing all kinds of uncomfortable things and then asking for feedback (the harsher the better!) on all those things you didn’t feel confident about to begin with. Fun! Luckily, after 4 years of building Skillcrush and getting feedback on every aspect of what we do, I have developed a skin thick enough that *most* of the time I can take feedback and just appreciate it for what it is without getting upset. But of course, there are always those emails that arrive in my inbox at that exact wrong moment or complain about that ONE THING THAT’S BEEN DRIVING ME NUTS TOO AND WHY ISN’T IT FIXED ALREADY?!?! As the supreme court has told us, corporations are people too*. And sometimes, we get our feelings hurt ;) I am telling you this because I want you to know that we–me and the entire Skillcrush team–really do believe that taking risks and learning new things, and getting feedback and always improving, are the only ways to succeed. And I don’t even think it’s always about success per se, it’s really just about being a person, doing something meaningful, every single day, even when it means sticking your neck out over and over. With that in mind, I’d love to share with you some of the improvements we’ve been working on based on the feedback you’ve been so generous to give us: New Student Dashboard! [dashboard 2.png] Feedback: The old dashboard design was cramped & listed blueprints in a confusing order. Improvement: Our new dashboard design is light and airy and lists blueprints in chronological order of when you enrolled in it! New Orientation Class! [orientation 2.png] Feedback: Making sense of the class emails, Google Groups, tools, softwares to download, email addresses, was enough to make one’s head spin (and turn off one’s computer). Improvement: We’ve launched a new and streamlined orientation to help you make sense of how Skillcrush works. [Want to take a peek?] More Skillcrush Mentors! [mentors.png] Feedback: Students want more mentoring from real-live industry professionals. Improvement: We’ve hired mentors! They’re amazing! And they all work in the field as designers and developers and are dying to share with you all their hard-earned knowledge and experience :) Improved Class Forums! [googlegroups 2.png] Feedback: Students questions used to go missing on our class forums and go unanswered for days :( Sometimes, forever !! Improvement: We’ve overhauled our class forums and have made sure that no student question will ever go unanswered, ever, again. New Alumni Community! [slack 2.png] Feedback: Students loved our community while they were enrolled in a class, but felt like it fell flat afterwards. Improvement: We now have an alumni Slack community where almost 1000 of our alumni hangout everyday chatting, helping each other out, and sharing gifs on over 36 different channels. Those kids are crazy!! JavaScript Curriculum Overhaul! [lolcat.png] Feedback: JavaScript is impossible! Save meeeeeee. Improvement: We’ve overhauled our JavaScript curriculum and for the first time ever, a user told me she “loved learning JavaScript.” #winning We’re in this together you and I. So let's get it done! I'd love for you to join me in the next Skillcrush Blueprint session starting soon. [Enrollment opens Thursday, May 26th!] xoxo, [adda_signature.jpg style=] P.S. Learn everything you need to launch a career in tech in our WordPress Bootcamp, and you can get it all at a $200 discount! [Learn about the bootcamp right here.] *It’s a real thing! It’s called corporate personhood and you can read about it on [wikipedia]. --------------------------------------------------------------- You received this email because you are subscribed to the Newsletter List from Skillcrush.
