| Dear Reader, Most experts appear to be pretty bearish about the stock market and the economy right

[Silver Ridge Market Report Logo] [Privacy Policy]( | [Advertiser Disclosure]( Dear Reader, Most experts appear to be pretty bearish about the stock market and the economy right now, with many expecting an economic downturn to lead to deteriorating earnings, which in turn could be bad for stock prices. This sentiment can largely be explained by the fact that inflation remains troublingly high, which suggests we’ll have a protracted period of tight monetary policy. But economic and earnings recessions are still being determined. And there are plenty of reasons to believe that any downturn would be mild. Below are nine reasons to be optimistic. 1. Demand for labor is very strong 2. Consumer finances are very strong 3. Businesses are investing at a near-record rate 4. Gasoline prices have tumbled 5. Supply chains have improved significantly 6. Household debt delinquencies are low 7. Mortgage payments are manageable 8. Layoff activity is very low 9. Corporate earnings are expected to be high The unfortunate irony is that it’s certainly possible that anything or everything I chronicled above is peaking and on the brink of getting worse. But for now, they all appear to be bolstering growth. In particular, measures like job openings, excess savings, and core capex orders signal growth in the months ahead. The unfortunate irony of a lot of the demand-related strength we’ve discussed is that it’s also preventing inflation from cooling faster. As such, we have a Federal Reserve that sees only one way out of the current inflation problem: Use tighter monetary policy to put pressure on financial markets, which should in turn cool demand. Though, the longer this policy path continues, the higher the risk of an economic recession.
