[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. For almost two weeks we've had the pleasure of dog-sitting for my mother-in-law as she recovers from surgery. It's nice to have the little pup around, but I don't have to tell dog owners about the duties that come with having a dog and the care and attention they need. But with her dog in our care, I've paid a little closer attention to the stories of a new illness that has seemingly been going around. If you haven't heard about it, multiple states, including Rhode Island and Massachusetts, have reported the illness with symptoms that include coughing and sneezing, difficulty breathing, dehydration and fever. In rare cases, the illness can lead to pneumonia and death. [123_1.JPEG] Amanda House, with her dog Tucker, a 7-year old American Yellow Lab, who was diagnosed with a possible case of the mysterious illness being found in dogs this year. Tucker started showing signs of the illness in September and lasted for over a month. The infection, that is being referred to as the "mysterious illness" was confirmed to House that this was more than likely what Tucker was experiencing. Provided by Amanda House The problem has garnered national headlines, but is the illness as bad as it might be made out to be? The Journal's Jack Perry talked with veterinarians and dog care providers to learn more about what they're seeing and while sick dogs are being found, just what is causing the illness remains unknown. With that in mind, Jack reports that precautions are recommended and some places have even taken steps to limit exposure among dogs. There's also an ongoing effort to learn more about what exactly is happening. What can you do to keep your dog safe?[Check out Jack's article and learn more about his illness and what can be done.]( Do you enjoy the Daily Briefing?
