[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. It's great to see people taking care of Green Hill Pond. I realize that for many people across the state, Green Hill Pond is just another of the state's salt ponds, providing a boundary between the ocean and land, but for me, it was a place where I spent a great deal of my childhood and my family cared the water quality of the area. I grew up in a home on Teal Pond, spending days in boats of all kinds catching and releasing turtles. As the pond became clogged with algae in the years after I moved away my mom and a neighbor would spend hours scooping the slimy goo away. [IMG_5054.JPG] Green Hill Pond has been closed to shellfishing since 1994. Antonia Noori Farzan Teal Pond flows into Green Hill Pond and from there we'd kayak across to the beach, or take a small motorboat around the water to explore the tiny islands or goof around some. From a dock, we'd catch blue crabs, an activity my mom would later share with my kids. It's with joy that I share Antonia Farzan's story about the efforts of those living around Green Hill Pond to restore the water quality of the pond. Especially with a simple idea such as rain gardens. [Check out Antonia's story and learn more about what's happening in South Kingstown.]( And if the effort is successful, maybe someday, you'll even go for a swim in Green Hill Pond.
