[@Will_Richmond]( Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing. During the past couple of months, there's been plenty written and said about Supreme Court Justice Clarance Thomas and his use of trips and other benefits paid for by a third party. And while the debate over Thomas' actions continues in Washington, D.C., it may be good to know there are regulations in place here in Rhode Island that are intended to stop similar actions from even slipping by unnoticed. In this week's Political Scene, The Journal's Katie Mulvaney takes a look at Rhode Island's financial disclosure laws and a Judicial Code of Conduct. [Thumbnail Gavel 2] gavel The Providence Journal "Like most public officials, j[udges]( and magistrates are required to submit annual financial disclosures to the Ethics Commission, which are posted [online](. The filings detail vacation homes and real estate holdings, family members and their income streams, ownership interests in businesses, family debts and organization memberships and board posts," Katie reports. But that's not the only method used to monitor judges. The 16-member Commission on Judicial Tenure and Discipline exists to vet serious complaints against judges and magistrates, but as Katie finds, not everyone finds the Commission to be an effective group, as most of their work isn't seen by the public. Is the Commission effective or are the concerns legitimate? [Check out Katie's article and decide for yourself.]( Is it time to subscribe to The Providence Journal?
