SCOTT WELSH?S ANATOMY OF A GREAT TRADE Anatomy of a Great Trade: TGT Smart traders have told us to

[] Anatomy of a Great Trade [View in browser]( [View in browser]( [] JAN 12, 2024 [] [] SCOTT WELSH’S ANATOMY OF A GREAT TRADE Anatomy of a Great Trade: TGT (and it’s still got room to run) Smart traders have told us to ignore the news. But should we? Isn’t the news relevant to our trading? Well, if we look at Target (TGT), the answer is definitely yes. We should absolutely ignore the news. Because the news on TGT back in October 2023 was awful. They’d made a marketing blunder and their earnings were sinking. According to the headlines, TGT was canceled, yesterday’s news, or worse. But for a deep value investor, October 2023 was an incredible time to buy. Here’s the chart: [] Right when all the bad news was coming out, TGT hit the bottom Bollinger Band™. That’s a Deep Value trader’s excitement point. And what happened if you completely ignored the news and bought a stock at $105 that had a “fair value” of $180? You’d be up big right now. You’d be sitting on a 34% gain with $40 of upside still remaining. Listen to the news at your own peril. Deep Value investors definitely do not. Happy trading, Scott P.S. As a reminder, these historical lookbacks are based on my longer-term Weinstein Stage Analysis method. The charts above use monthly candles and a 12 month simple moving average. For details on this method, see my explanation on [this Ask The Pros episode]( starting at timestamp 20:45. Additionally, the teal lines on the chart show the profitable runs. Remember when being a software engineer was as close to job security nirvana as you could get? Well, it seems that yesterday’s rock stars are today’s has-beens in today’s job market. The culprit? Good old Artificial Intelligence. Yes, the very tool that was supposed to be our loyal sidekick could be turning into a job-snatching villain. A recent survey of over 9,000 software engineers reveals a growing concern that AI could lead to a decrease in hiring. Only 6% of respondents felt confident about landing a job with the same pay if they were shown the door. Talk about confidence taking a nosedive! Even formerly highly-sought-after software engineers are facing this harsh new reality. Post-pandemic, many are reporting swimming in a sea of job applications, but it's more of a struggle than a freestyle. To quote many in this position, the competition is “absolutely insane.” The tech sector has seen over 400,000 layoffs in the last two years — and engineers, once considered safe, are now feeling the heat. This shift seems to be part of a larger trend. AI's ability to automate coding tasks, once the exclusive domain of humans, is quickly turning the job market into a game of musical chairs where the chairs are disappearing faster than you can say "learn to code." But here's the kicker: Despite these worrying trends, only 28% of engineers are genuinely fretting over AI completely making their jobs obsolete. It seems denial is more than just a river in Egypt. Meanwhile, over 60% believe AI will lead to fewer hires in their companies. In a twist that would make Hollywood scriptwriters jealous, the once secure and lucrative field of software engineering is facing its reckoning with AI. The question on everyone's mind: Are we witnessing the start of a national crisis, where even the most tech-savvy aren't safe from the AI revolution? Time will tell, but one thing's for sure — AI is rapidly reconfiguring the dynamics of the job market and it seems no one is immune. Seems as a society, we’ll all have to start thinking: In a world where AI is rapidly learning how to do everything humans have done, what will our next move be? — The Prosperity Pub Team [] [] [] ___________________________________________________ [] [] JAN 12, 2024 [] [] SCOTT WELSH’S ANATOMY OF A GREAT TRADE Anatomy of a Great Trade: TGT (and it’s still got room to run) Smart traders have told us to ignore the news. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
