We helped hundreds of thousands of voters and we defended voters’ voices. But the latest reporting reminds us just how fragile our democracy really is. According to reporting by the AJC: “Georgia conservatives target thousands for cancellation: So far this year, at least 25,500 voter registration have been challenged in Georgia. 1,800 registrations have been canceled.” Republicans are working overtime to prevent voters from registering – and in the process, they are burdening elections offices with frivolous voter challenges. This much is clear: Republicans aren’t taking time off, and neither can we. It’s not enough to protect the vote for 3-6 months during campaigns. Our voter protection efforts will only be effective if we have the resources to fully fund sustained, year-round voter protection programs.
