Why we’re investing big in the peach state this year   Hi Friend, We’ve got some exciting news – we’re partnering with the Democratic Party of Georgia to fund five voter protection staff this year! (Wow, that feels great to say!) Georgia is where it all started for us – my co-founders and I led the Democratic Party of Georgia’s voter protection program in 2020 when the state flipped blue for the first time. And our work made the margin of victory – we helped 15,780 voters fix issues with their mail ballots in November, which delivered the state for President Biden and ensured that Senators Ossoff and Warnock advanced to the runoffs. So we know as well as anyone: voter protection is absolutely essential for empowering Georgia voters and securing Democratic wins up and down the ballot. You may be asking: Why Georgia? Georgia is a key battleground state this year. According to this analysis by political strategist Michael Podhorzer, there are [only two paths to victory]( for President Biden. If we don’t win Pennsylvania, we have to win both Georgia and Michigan. We can’t take anything for granted this year. But we’re also looking ahead – Georgia is a key Senate battleground in 2026 and 2028. And Georgia is part of our broader southern strategy. Population trends will likely lead to [additional congressional seats and electoral college votes in key states]( after 2030, including Georgia. We’re committed to investing for the long term, to ensure the work done this year lays the groundwork for 2026 and beyond. Okay, so why invest in Georgia right now? Primary elections are already underway – and for voter protection teams, this is go time. Primaries are our best chance to see how new voting laws are being implemented and what barriers voters are facing. It’s also the time to test and iterate programs, try new things, and see what works ahead of November. Help us make it possible for the Democratic Party of Georgia to hire and staff up their program for 2024! * Will you give today? * [DONATE!](   In Other News… Big win for democracy in Arizona: A federal judge struck down provisions of two Arizona voter suppression laws. “The court determined that requiring individuals who register to vote using the state form to include the voter’s state or country of birth violates the Materiality Provision of the Civil Rights Act. The court also struck down the provision of H.B. 2243 that allows county recorders to cancel a voter’s registration if they have “reason to believe” they are not a U.S. Citizen. In another win for voters, the court found that the state’s requirement to provide documentary proof of residence for federal elections violates federal law.” Read more [here](. False election denier claims exposed: In 2021, election deniers at True the Vote filed a complaint with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffenspberger, claiming that they had proof of widespread “ballot harvesting” in metro Atlanta during the 2020 elections. Last year, a judge ordered the group to back up those claims with proof – and they finally had to admit, they have no evidence whatsoever. Read more [here](. Black churches in Georgia unite to mobilize voters: Two of the largest Black church groups in Georgia are formally uniting for the first time to mobilize Black voters in the battleground state ahead of the November presidential election. The two congregations, the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, plan to combine their resources and their more than 140,000 parishioners in the state for the get-out-the-vote program. The legislation would update and restore the provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that have been gutted in recent years.
