The systemic flaws in our criminal justice system are on full display right now in two of our nation

The systemic flaws in our criminal justice system are on full display right now in two of our nation’s most high-profile cases. [Plaskett for Congress]( {NAME}, The systemic flaws in our criminal justice system are on full display right now in two of our nation’s most high-profile cases. In the Ahmaud Arbery trial, the jury is nearly all white with only one Black man. And the defense attorney has used racist language calling on the judge to ban Black pastors from the court, comparing them to Colonel Sanders. Even the judge called this reprehensible! Meanwhile, in the Kyle Rittenhouse case, the judge ruled that prosecutors were not allowed to refer to the people he shot as “victims” – yet the defense was allowed to refer to the people protesting the shooting of a black man as “rioters” and “looters.” As a mother of 5 black kids, these issues hit particularly close to home. And as an accomplished attorney and a Congresswoman for the Virgin Islands, I’m leading the fight to root out racism and fix these flaws in our criminal justice system. [I’m going to continue using my voice to call attention and seek justice, because this is important.
