No pet should face euthanasia simply because their medical needs are too expensive. Making medical miracles happen [View this email in your browser]( Dear Friend, Too often, homeless pets with expensive medical needs face euthanasia simply because shelters can't afford their care. We created our Emergency Medical Grants to help adoption groups take in these neediest pets without worrying about crippling medical bills. With your support, we've helped pets like Jovie, pictured above, a miniature Australian shepherd who arrived at Nashville Humane Association with a cleft palate and other birth defects — including a unique cleft nose! With assistance from our grant, the 1-year-old pup received several highly specialized surgeries to improve her quality of life. Throughout, she remained "a ray of sunshine in our shelter," staffers say. Jovie soon found a loving home with another pup and two human brothers! As a tiny kitten, Sami was found dragging her paralyzed hind legs behind her through the streets. She was in terrible pain and covered in infected sores from the friction. Tomato Foster Club in Louisiana took her in and, with help from our Emergency Medical Grant, got her surgery to amputate her hind legs and tail. "She nearly instantaneously became an unstoppable scooty kitty, zooming wherever she pleased," says the group's Coral Pogue. Sami is now in her forever home. Camilo was hit by a car and left on the side of the road for days. He had two broken legs and was covered in lacerations and contusions. Upon learning of his plight, Make a Difference Rescue of Western New York immediately arranged for his rescue. Our grant helped cover the surgery needed to repair Camilo's fractured bones with plates and screws. During his recovery, his foster mom fell in love with him, and he is now in his forever home with her! Toby was hit by a car and ended up in a municipal shelter in Texas with a shattered leg and fractured pelvis. The shelter didn't have the budget for the complicated surgery Toby needed, so Friends of Rowlett Animals took him in. Our grant helped pay for Toby's amputation surgery and he was adopted by a family with prior experience with a tripod cat. "Toby will have a great life versus being euthanized for medical reasons at the shelter," says the group's Deana Seigler. "We can’t thank the Petfinder Foundation enough." The Petfinder Foundation helps these and thousands of other pets get the life-changing medical care they need so that they can find their perfect homes. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
