Another Young Horse Died From Racing Injuries – It’s Time to Put an End to This Cruel ‘Sport’ Irish Spring was racing at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club when he went down along with another horse and a jockey. Irish Spring lost his life and others were put at risk – and for what? There is nothing worth making innocent lives suffer, certainly not money! Don’t let Irish Spring’s life be in vain, sign the petition the Care2 team has initiated to get the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in California to end horse racing once and for all. [Read more here.]( STOP Construction of Dam That Will Flood Critical Sanctuary for Endangered Chimpanzees! Moyen-Bafing has become home to 4,000 chimpanzees who needed human help to survive and thrive, the Guardian reports. Unfortunately, the animals’ future is now anything but certain after the government approved plans for China’s Sinohydro to build the 294MW Koukoutamba dam inside the park. It is estimated that the dam could wipe out up to 1,500 chimps. According to primatologist Rebecca Kormos, the situation is really tragic. “If the plan goes ahead, it would have the biggest impact a development project has had on chimpanzees, ever,” she said. The feasibility study and an environmental impact assessment funded by the World Bank stated that the dam could affect 200-300 chimpanzees. But Kormos, who has been researching the species in Guinea for decades, believes that the study greatly underestimates the population and does not account for the deadly territorial conflicts that would arise if the animals are driven into surrounding areas. In 2016, animal lovers around the world, and especially in Buenos Aires, rejoiced at the news that the appallingly-run Buenos Aires Zoo was shutting down. Hearing that it would be transformed into an EcoPark gave all who had been following the story of the zoo, and its treatment of the animals in its care, a little hope that this time around, things would be done right. Disappointingly, two years on, it appears that absolutely nothing has changed. Since the zoo’s closure, 119 animals have died, and more than 20 have escaped. Animal cruelty has been reported in every single general election by party supporters. According to the petition, “A week prior, after the head of the political party PTI called supporters of an opposing party ‘donkeys,’ PTI’s supporters attacked [and] surrounded an actual donkey and beat it ‘to a pulp.'” Witnesses reported that the donkey was beaten mercilessly and despite animal rescuers’ best efforts to save the donkey, it didn’t pull through. A week after, a dog became the victim of the losing party’s disappointed supporters. The heartless group wrapped a dog in the flag of the opposing party, tied the animal to a tree, and filmed themselves shooting it numerous times.[Read more here.]( For more ways you can take action, [click here!]( www.onegreenplanet.org Copyright © 2017 One Green Planet, All rights reserved.
