The Buttonwood Park Zoo has been on the list of the worst zoos for elephants for seven years in a row, yet they are still in business. These elephants, named Ruth and Emily, would normally be sprawling mass expanses of land on a daily basis if in the wild or at a sanctuary, but instead, they are forced to share a tiny space, which has led to Emily attacking Ruth 36 times between 2005 and 2015, after which the zoo stopped keeping track. One of these incidents was so brutal that Ruth lost six inches of her tail. A petition on Care2 has been set up to speak up for Ruth and Emily and get them sent to a reputable sanctuary where they can live the remainder of their lives free from cramped confines and constant psychological and physical distress. Terrified animals are typically smuggled to Southeast Asia, where wildlife dealers use social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to market and sell these precious animals to people all around the world for a hefty price (a baby gorilla can fetch around $250,000). All great ape species and most gibbon species are classified as endangered, and the buying and selling of wild animals is illegal under international law. A petition on Care2 has been written to make Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp crack down on these atrocious global crimes that are not only harming animals and greatly destroying biodiversity but are contributing greatly to other illicit violent crimes as well. Some people may not know this, but there are currently three satellites circling our planet that were launched under the U.S. Government’s polar ice monitoring program. However, all three of these satellites are out of date, and the Government says they will not launch a new one until 2023. The petition is calling on two scientifically-minded individuals, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, and Jeff Bezos, founder of Blue Origin, to provide launch facilities and mission support for this polar ice monitoring program to not only maintain it but to improve it as well. Two mother dogs and fourteen puppies had their heads bashed with rocks and their bodies beaten with rods until they were unconscious. The puppies were then stuffed into a bag, and all sixteen innocent animals were then buried alive in a pit that had already been dug, showing these brutal crimes were without a doubt premeditated. These heinous crimes were done by a group of people led by a security guard, who is the only person currently under investigation by authorities. A petition has been set up on Care2 demanding justice for these sixteen dogs and asking the Bangladesh Police Inspector General to investigate further and prosecute everyone who took part in these heinous crimes. Although proven to be ineffective and now obsolete in most medical residency programs in the U.S. and in Canada, medical training involving live animals is still being carried out at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There, rabbits and sheep are dying at the hands of emergency medicine residents – despite the inadequacy and cruelty of the procedures. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has launched a petition to raise awareness for the issue and putting an end to the practices still in use at HCMC.
