The Citizens for Alternatives to Animal Research and Experimentation (CAARE) explains how the College of Optometry at the State University of New York (SUNY) has been conducting unbelievably inhumane and invasive experiments on cats and kittens since 1985 thanks to a grant from the National Eye Institute (NEI.) Cats and kittens as young as four months old are purchased by the lab from suppliers, where they are treated like disposable objects. At the lab, these frightened felines are paralyzed and hooked up to restraining devices, where their skulls are then removed and their brains probed with electrodes while images are flashed before their eyes.
