Here’s what’s at stake: Climate Climate change affects us all, but not equally. Long standing gender, racial and economic inequalities mean that historically marginalized communities — those least responsible for the problem — are the hardest hit and most impacted. Yet despite some progress, our leaders are not acting with the urgency, attention, or level of investment that the climate crisis demands. We can’t afford to wait for another climate disaster like what we’re seeing in Puerto Rico, Florida, and Pakistan. We need leaders who will stand up to the fossil fuel industry, invest in a green energy future, and make good on climate commitments to the global community. Reproductive Rights For many people around the country — especially people of color and poor people — the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision added to the steady erosion of their human rights for years. We will not stop pushing for the protection of rights and will not be sent back to the 1950s with the stroke of a pen. If we believe in a more equal future, a more equal present, we must elect leaders who will honor that belief and fight to protect the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom. Economic Inequality Poverty and injustice are consequences of political failure. From tax-dodging billionaires to mega-corporations profiting off unfair labor practices, the US political and economic system has allowed for the ultra-wealthy to grow their fortunes on the backs of everyone else. We need leaders who will take decisive action to reduce economic inequality — particularly for families and communities of color. Voting Rights The right to vote is a cornerstone of American democracy — it enables each of us to participate in decisions that affect our lives, and the lives of people across the country and around the world. But some elected officials continue to work relentlessly to strip away this right that has been at the heart of the struggle for justice in our country since its founding. As an advocate for equality, we’re counting on you to raise your voice in the 2022 midterm elections. To help ensure all voices are heard, Oxfam has partnered with When We All Vote (WWAV). WWAV is a voting advocacy organization and has developed a compilation of resources to make sure we all have the tools necessary to show up in this election. Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
