Hi Tristan,  Do you know the quickest way to induce a trance?  Spoiler: It's not ANY of the traditional hypnotic inductions you've been taught.  Long before neuroscience was a mainstream thing, Michael Breen was experimenting with state of the art EEG machines that read peopleâs brainwaves trying to figure out what occurs in peopleâs brains when they go into trance.  By setting aside the assumptions that underpinned the entire field of hypnosis, he made a breakthrough he never expected and discovered the fastest way.  (Iâll tell you what that is in a minute.)  Today, brain science is everywhere, but unfortunately, mainstream coaching schools are archaically behind on modern scientific breakthroughs⦠ â¦leaving their students unequipped to tap into the power of stories to create change.  It's sad but true that if you look at the âcore competenciesâ of so-called âleadingâ coaching schools, they are all missing one big thing:  Storytelling as a potent tool for creating breakthroughs within coaching conversations.  Instead, they teach âchecklist coachingâ, shackling coaches with a rigid set of pre-determined questions.  Many coaches have told me they âfeel guiltyâ, like they are doing something wrong, if they dare share a story with clients that could help.  This overprescription of âwhat is rightâ, isnât just silly, itâs dumb. It ignores the overwhelming evidence on the power of stories to change behaviour!  Over the past 20 years, there has been a wealth of science-backed evidence showing that when people use stories to communicate, they change peopleâs behaviour by altering their brain chemistry.  When you tell a story well, three chemicals are released:  First, the brain releases cortisol, which focuses awareness and hooks our attention, drawing the listener into the story.  Second, the listener gets a hit of dopamine, as their emotions get involved. We are transported from our current world (and whatever problems we have) to a special place between time-and-space where a new reality becomes possible.  Finally, the body triggers oxytocin, the trust hormone - which plays a role in forming beliefs.  When all three chemicals work together, they ignite and fuel our imagination ... opening up the door to change.
