Hey Tristan,  As students of NLP, one of the topics not written about much in NLP books but is essential to use technology really well is the ability to consciously direct focus - both our own and others.  The ability to focus, to direct and sustain attention for longer periods of time is a critical driver for success. No focus = no results.  Yet most of us struggle to get focused and few have mastered the ability to focus for hours (or weeks) at a time.  So here's a simple focusing system you can use to dramatically increase your capacity to get focused, and stay laser focused.  I call this TRS - The Triple R Focusing System.  The 3 Rs stand for Recognise, Release, Recover.  Here's what each component does: Recognise: I have a saying I live by. My kids know it and so do my clients:  "We are always in training."  The question is, what is being trained in at any given moment, and is it serving you?  Many people would love to be more focused but they don't realise just how much they have trained in the habit of getting distracted every days. So, the the first skill to gaining greater focus is to notice in what contexts and situations are you less focused and easily lose focus?  Write them down.  In any moment, stop and ask yourself,  "Am I really clear about what I am looking to achieve in the next X minutes/hours?"  This will help you assess if you are 'on focus' or not.  Once you recognize where and when you lose focus, you are then in a position to move to the second R: release.  Release is all about letting go of distractions, and the over fixation on less important things in place of what is truly important.  We can do this at both the strategic and behavioural level. At the strategic level, it is about releasing our tendency to begin the day without any clear outcome or purpose in mind. If we're lacking a strong intention and a specific outcome for the day, then our attention will be captured by whatever shows up in our environment.  At the behavioural level, it is the practice of quickly dropping distractions and moving swiftly onto what we want to be doing.  As we teach in our course, Foundations, the âdrop itâ command is an excellent practice to develop, so that as soon as you recognise your focus is not where it should be, rather than coming up with reasons why ... we quickly shift from what is going on, to what we WANT to create and move our attention, awareness and energy directly to that.  This leads us to the third part in this cyclical process, which is Recover.  We want to quickly recover our attention and intention.  As soon as you recognize that your attention has been hijacked (or shifted to something else) and you release and drop the interruption ... you are then in a position to recover your attention.  To bring it back to doing that which is truly most important.  In essence, we're asking and answering the question:  âWhat is the most important action I can be doing right now to accomplish the outcome that I want?â  Once we're clear about that, then we can JFDI (Just do it!) and shift instantly to recovering our focus and creating (more of) the outcomes we want.  There you have it, 3 simple steps you can use TODAY to dramatically increase your focus.  Repeat this process for a couple of weeks and you will be able to get focused and stay focused for much longer time periods than you can do right now.  Test it out for yourself.  And if you want to be more productive and discover [how to use submodalities to increase your productivity - check out this article.](  To your success, Tom       NLP Times, Real NLP Skills For The Real World [Unsubscribe]( | [Edit your details]( D&T New Media Limited
