Congress needs to act on legalized slavery. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [Nikema for Congress]( {NAME}, today is Juneteenth. On this holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, Congresswoman Nikema Williams is celebrating by reintroducing the Abolition Amendment, which would strike the “Slavery Clause” from the 13th Amendment. Though most forms of slavery were abolished by the 13th Amendment, it still allowed for slavery to be used as punishment for a crime. This dangerous loophole perpetuates modern-day slavery and forced labor in our country, and it must be closed. Nearly two million incarcerated people in the United States are still legally allowed to be used as forced labor. And, {NAME}, the Black community is disproportionately affected by mass incarceration. We must end this injustice; that’s why Nikema and her Congressional allies are taking action. In 2022, more than 130 Representatives – every member of the Congressional Black Caucus in the House – cosponsored Nikema’s legislation closing this modern slavery loophole. But, {NAME}, if we’re going to pass 2023’s reintroduced Abolition Amendment, we need your help. [Will you add your name to our petition demanding the GOP work with House Dems to pass the Abolition Amendment and make modern-day slavery a thing of the past?]( [ADD YOUR NAME]( Your voice counts, Team Nikema As the proud Congresswoman for Georgia’s Fighting Fifth, the cradle of the Civil Rights movement, Nikema Williams has always been a fearless advocate for working families, Reproductive Freedom, Voting Rights, and closing the racial wealth gap. With the GOP threatening our rights and cutting funding from Social Security, Medicare, and so much more, we need advocates like Nikema in office now more than ever. Will you help keep Nikema in Congress fighting for the policies that matter to working people across Georgia and help stave off the GOP's attack on our rights by donating whatever you can afford today?
