We must do our best to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, our freedoms, and our ideals. ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ [MIKIE SHERRILL - U.S. CONGRESS] {NAME}, I spend Memorial Day weekend reflecting on the sacrifices of our fallen heroes. I’m always moved to be with fellow veterans and share our stories of service. I’m also so grateful to live in a community that honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and holds close the families who have lost loved ones. I am often reminded of this quote from President Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address” around Memorial Day: “It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” - Abraham Lincoln, “Gettysburg Address” It’s my solemn hope that we can better honor those who have given everything for our freedoms and democracy. One of the best ways we can do that is by fighting for the democracy they died for and by giving our full support and resources to veterans and their families.
