{NAME}, We are witnessing a defining moment in the history of Cuba and their citizens' fight for freedom. Thousands of Cubans took to the streets this past week to protest food shortages, lack of medicine, and surging prices for basic necessities due to the coronavirus. Despite the persistent threat of persecution these brave men and women face every day, they have come out across the entire island to demand their right to live in a free and democratic Cuba -- where people can not only survive but thrive. My own parents fled Cuba in the pursuit of freedom and a better life for our family. As a Cuban-American with family still living in Cuba, I know firsthand how the regime has used violence and oppression to silence its people. I've had difficulty in the last few days reaching my extended family members in Cuba. The government has shut down power, turned off access to reliable internet, and even restricted the ability of Cubans to receive much needed supplies from outside the island. This must end. We must continue to stand in solidarity with Cubans who are fighting against an authoritarian regime that continues to stifle them at every turn. -- Bob Menendez
