40+? Yes, and a several more guest posts! I attribute a lot of my growth in those first 1-2 years to the guest posts and podcasts I did. I was invited on some. But I had to personally pitch many. Here are a couple of questions (+lessons) from these Should you tie podcasts to launches? It’s very hard to tie a launch to when a podcast goes live. Maybe it’s possible if you’re one of the big names in the industry. Some podcasters do ask if there are important dates that you'd like to tie it to but this is more often than not incredibly difficult to do. I’d suggest not focusing on this because the benefits of a podcast are not tied to just that week that it airs. As more listeners find the show or tune in, the more eyeballs you get over time. What topics should you talk about? This really depends on the style of the podcast and the preference of the podcast host. I’ve had more audience responses to podcasts which talk about specific topics that are branches from my main content categories. You want people listening to those topics to enter your pre-planned pathways and discover more of your work. This happens pretty easily when topics are specific. That said, there are times you show up on a podcast and talk about 'high level' topics or just have a conversation about your thoughts on your niche and industry. These still help with brand awareness and lead to people checking out your work. Is a podcast publicist necessary? Absolutely not. I did all my pitching myself till last year. Why I decided to hire out was because I wasn’t able to dedicate the time I wanted to pitching when I knew the results it could produce. Worse thing that happened to me? When a conversation centered around topics that were completely out of my zone of genius and a host decided to go off the topic we agreed upon. This very rarely happens because usually you decide on a topic beforehand and this is based on how you can fill a gap in a host’s show. Have you ever stumbled or lost your train your thought? Of course! But there’s more character in an unpolished version of you than a highly scripted version. Agree? I still have my uhmms and ahhhs and I still stumble. But you try and get better with every recording you do. And I don’t ever listen back to my recordings. --------------------------------------------------------------- In last week's email I mentioned that I've invited my podcast publicist Christina from 'PublicityxChristina to do a [short training for you.]() If being a guest on podcasts is on your radar for 2022 - and I hope it is! - I hope you'll join me on this training! I very rarely invite guests and Christina is someone I’ve worked with for more than a year now and she brings authenticity to the entire pitching process. She’ll be talking about getting started with podcasting, pitch 'Dos and Donts' and some resources to get started. WHEN 13 December, 7PM EST [You can click here to sign-up with 1-click ]() Want to invite a friend?
