As you know, I'm running a grassroots campaign (no corporate PAC money) to oust Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy in CA-23. McCarthy is one of Trump's most loyal servants, and no one in Congress deserves to lose as much as he does. [But I want you to know more about me. I know it's not enough to be against something or someone -- you have to stand for something.]( [And yes, I'll be upfront: I'm going to ask you to pitch in $3 at the end of this email (or, you can click here to do so now).]( But, I hope that by the time I've explained myself and you've learned more about my story, you'll feel like you want to be a part of this Democratic team. My Family I raised my only daughter, Kathryn, as a single mother. Here's a photo of the two of us when Kathryn was very young. [Kim and her daughter Kathryn]( As you can imagine, it was hardly ever a walk in the park. I was working, serving in the U.S. Air Force, and putting myself through school -- simultaneously -- while I raised Kathryn on my own. Financial security never came easy. I strive to make my daughter proud every day, and show her the importance of public service. {NAME}, families like mine have been ignored by Republicans, and especially Kevin McCarthy, for too long. Instead of giving any support to working families, McCarthy helped Trump pass the GOP Tax Scam, giving billions in tax breaks to corporations. And now, during the COVID-19 crisis, Republicans like McCarthy believe that our government should not lift a finger to help those facing unemployment, evictions, and lost income. My Service in the U.S. Air Force My career of public service started when I decided to join the U.S. Air Force. Here's a photo of me during my six years of service: [Kim serving in the U.S. Air Force]( As an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer, I actually worked on the B-2 Bomber while I was serving. I was also stationed overseas in Germany for some time. I was actually the first woman to work in the aircraft maintenance hangar on that base... something I learned almost immediately when I realized that the hangar only had men's restrooms. Yes, you read that right -- I had to hang a sign on the door that said "Kim" whenever I went in. Sure, I've faced some unique hardships, but I've always been proud to serve my country. Now, I'm a veteran, and it's so important to me that our servicemen and servicewomen, as well as my fellow veterans, know that I'll fight for them in Congress. We can do so much more to improve their health care, and give them resources to transition back into civilian life. Running For Congress I want to fight for working families of this district -- not corporate donors, like Kevin McCarthy does. I'll fight to support the clean energy wind and solar farms that are in our district, and work to invest in our community to help our residents get jobs in these industries. I'll fight tooth and nail to defend Social Security and Medicare -- no matter what. I'll fight for a universal health care system, and fight against Big Pharma to reduce the outrageous cost of medications. No one should have to choose between paying their rent or paying for health care. I'll fight for equal pay for equal work for women. It's outrageous that women are still discriminated against in their wages. I'll fight for a humane immigration system, that keeps the promises we made to those who served in our military and DREAMers. I'll fight and make sure we're investing in our teachers, education system, and skills-based job training programs. Now, I need your help today {NAME}, Kevin McCarthy doesn't understand our district anymore. He's a typical politician now, with blinders on to focus on his next Big Money Fundraiser. It's how he spends nearly all of his time. In fact, he's raised more money for Trump's re-election campaign than any other Republican in Congress! I'm not running this campaign that way, {NAME}. We're not taking one cent from corporate PACs, and last quarter, 99% of our donations were under $200. That's monumental! [Look, I know beating McCarthy won't be easy. But Democrats fought for some incredibly tough districts in 2018. Then, they flipped over 40 of them and took back the House Majority because they didn't back down. I know we're going to do that here, too, in November.]( But to do that, I need to ask for your help. We can't win without you.
