Confession: I used to have a serious case of “it’s not working”-itis. If I didn’t see results immediately from a course, coach, strategy, formula, or tactic, then it wasn’t “working.” Because it seemed obvious: If this thing was going to work for me, as long as I was following the instructions and implementing it, shouldn’t it work right NOW? Unfortunately, I know it’s not just me either. Like this private client who exhibited all of the classic symptoms of this “illness” during a call. In fact, he came out and asked: “What do you do when things aren’t working?” I answered in two parts. And I want to share my answer in case it’s helpful to you too. First, I pointed out all the things that he’d done in less than a year: * Went from no business (and no confidence that he could build an online business) to a very profitable one… * Where he’s made almost $20K in revenue on the side (while working a very demanding job) * Got featured on some of the top podcasts in his industry, which also helped him grow his email list to over 500 subscribers without any paid advertising * Created his first ever course * Set up a system for selling for his course, which he’d just rolled out...and had already made 3 sales * Massively improved his marketing, copywriting, video, and sales skills...not to mention his confidence and mindset As you can see, he’d experienced a LOT of success. And all in his first year(!!) . So why wasn’t he able to see it for himself? This is where part two of my answer comes in. (And this took me years to figure out for myself.) Next, I pointed out a critical reframe: In his mind, he was thinking about his progress as an either-or type of situation. As in, either he made six-figures his first year, or else…nothing was working. When the truth is, that attitude was causing him to miss out on all the incredible progress he’d made in less than a year. And which, if he allowed himself to see it, had set him up to start exponentially increasing his revenue now that he had a scalable marketing and sales system. To paraphrase what I told him, because I want to share it with you too: Things are ALWAYS working. Even if it doesn’t feel like it. Because you’re learning and improving from every single thing you do. The only reason something feels like it’s not working is because you’re probably measuring success as an either-or situation, most likely based on an arbitrary timeline or result of your own imagination. Take me for example: * I’ve invested in courses, consultants, and coaches where I didn’t get a direct ‘return on investment’ right away. Sometimes it’d take a few months, and sometimes it’d even take a few years. But sooner or later, something I got from that investment would click, and I would realize how much it had actually “worked” for me. * I’ve also written posts and emails that felt like they’d “failed” because they didn’t get a lot of sales or engagement the first time. But the next time I used that piece of content, either because I’d make a tweak or because people simply needed to see it a few times before they really clicked with it, the results would be completely different. * And looking back, my failed launches, programs, and marketing campaigns that totally flopped — and felt like massive failures in the moment — are the ones that I learned the most from. Which then massively contributed to my next successful product. In other words: Everything is working. Every attempt, effort, and minute that you’re putting into your business IS working. It’s all adding up. Don’t get discouraged just because your results might not be meeting your exact plans or timelines. And especially don’t look at it as an either-or situation. Because everything you’re doing is actually adding up to a point where your efforts will meet — and very possibly exceed — what you’re hoping for. So as long as you don’t give up, getting to your dream business is just a question of WHEN, not IF.

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
