Something I like to remind myself of when I feel that way â which, honestly, is fairly frequently: âLuck is when preparation meets opportunity.â Probably most importantly, it reminds me to be patiently impatient. Because sometimes, even when YOU feel like youâre so ready for your next big breakthroughâ¦youâre not. And itâs your job to keep on preparing and growing your skills until it really is your time, or circumstances align. But I also use it as a reminder that you CAN speed up your âluck.â Because in most cases, no matter the situation, thereâs usually an opportunity availableâ¦if youâre willing to take advantage of it. For example⦠1. You can choose to see the opportunity, or the lack of it. When I first started online close to a decade ago, most people would ask, âWhatâs that?â when you told them you were a âcoach.â And course creators? They were like unicornsâ¦you occasionally heard about them, but you almost never saw one and werenât sure they even existed. But where most (my friends and family included) saw a lack of opportunity, I saw the opposite. Because I thought, âHey, even if itâs just a few people who I can see have done thisâ¦maybe I can too.â 2. You can choose to take advantage of the opportunity, or not. Iâll be the first to admit that luck played a pretty big role. But hey, Iâll take being lucky over being good, at least most days. Just as I was getting serious about building an online business, Facebook ads were becoming the hot new-ish thing for small businesses. And I just happened to have built a strong ads skillset from my career. I knew I didnât want to do ads coach-sulting for forever, but I also realized that here was a demand that I could meet. So⦠Opportunity, meet Luisa Zhou. 3. You can choose how you leverage your opportunities, or not. Even as I passed the 7-figure mark, I was living in a rent-subsidized (by Stephenâs work) apartment in NYC. The roaches came free of charge, btw. But I didnât mind. At least for the short term. Because I wanted to take as much of my initial profits as I could and put them back into the business. To build as solid a foundation, and to grow, as quickly as possible. Same reason why I didnât leave my job until Iâd passed 6-figures from the first online business. Sometimes people will comment or email in that they donât have my laser-focus or discipline. But donât forget: Iâm STILL the same person who stays up until 2am to finish a stupid Netflix show or young adult/fantasy novel. Or have days where I just donât feel like working. Oh and, letâs also not forget: It took me about three years before I got really serious about turning my online business dreams into realityâ¦because I got discouraged easily and didnât have the discipline to keep at it â so I kept on giving up! Yes, I work very hard. And yes, Iâm fairly focusedâ¦these days. But more importantly, Iâm always preparing myself and looking out for the next opportunity. Most people think of the beginning of the year as one of those opportunities. I get it â new year, new you, new possibilities. Exciting, for sure. But the reality is that by then, itâs too late. The real magic happens towards the end of the year. More specifically, in the last three months. Which you can use to not only end your year on a strong note (no matter how your year has been up until now). AND set you up to start the new year strong too. Why is this? And even more importantly.. How can you use this to create the most opportunity for yourself? Iâll be breaking this down over the next few days. ⨠Luisa Zhou If you no longer wish to receive these emails, click here to
