It originally started as just an off-the-cuff comment: "Think of me as your cool big sister who'll help you build your business..." I was (I think) brainstorming phrases and ideas that I could pull from real life into more of my videos. And thereâs no role I identify more with than being a big sister. Even though weâre just five years apart, that gap made a big difference in our childhood â when Ma and Ba were working 24/7 to build a home for us in America. So I was the one solely responsible for baby E most of the time. Changing diapers, then teaching her to read, and later on even to ride a bike. You know how it goes for older siblings. Being ten years apart from his baby brother though, Stephen didnât quite have the same experience. He was too busy being an immature teen. But heâs been making up for it ever since adulthoodâ¦in a way that makes me proud to know him. Like the first time he treated his parents and baby bro to a Michelin-starred restaurant â The Modern, next to the Museum of Modern Art. (Although now Iâm trying to remember why Stephen chose it, since he hates museums.) Iâll never forget it because it was one of the best meals weâd ever tasted. Although we had a scare beforehand because it was a surprise for his family so they didnât know â and theyâd just eaten a whole bunch of NYC hot dogs. (What if they were too full to enjoy the experience?) Thankfully, they had more than enough room for all six courses. And that was that. Or so I thought⦠Because just a few days ago, years after that meal, I heard a story from Wâs (Stephenâs brother) girlfriend⦠âW always mentions that meal at The Modern because it showed him how much more of the world he hadnât even known existed. Just as Stephen opened his eyes that way, he often tells me itâs our responsibility to do the same for my two little sisters. We want to show them whatâs possible.â Iâll never forget that. Because thatâs a huge reason why Stephen does everything he does â like his weekly calls with his brother, passing on all the things he and I talk about and think about, and striving to create a better life for his family. I once told Stephen, âOur siblings are doing way better than we were at their age! Financially, emotionally, everything!â And Stephen said, âGood. Isnât that the whole point? That each âgenerationâ paves the way for the next? So they can have it better and easier?â When I think about why I work so hard to create all the courses I do and put so much into each course and every piece of content⦠Itâs because of the same reason. Because of those early years, I really do see myself as a big sister more than anything. (Thank you E.) And I want you to get âthereâ faster and easier than me. (Because letâs face it â Iâve made a lot of mistakes, and wasted a lot of time and money. That, with the right knowledge, were definitely not necessary.) So you can pass it on yourself through your own coaching and courses, in every industry. So we can all make life better for our families, and thus the world, one small business at a time. Thanks for being here, on this journey together. I appreciate you.
