A lesson from one of the most successful business people on the planet: "Friends congratulate me after a quarterly-earnings announcement and say, 'Good job, great quarter,'" "And I'll say, 'Thank you, but that quarter was baked three years ago.â âJeff Bezos No matter the size or stage of your business, this lesson is a VERY important one if youâre serious about having your own Freedom Business: The business that you want to have tomorrow, or next year, or three years from now? Will be the result of what youâre building today . In fact, my own coaching/course business today is the direct result of what I first planned over nine years ago, when this business was nothing more than a dream. (Or, depending on who you asked, a pipedream.) From the beginning, I made some uncommonâand unpopularâdecisions because I was clear on the type of business I wanted to build: >> I prioritized systems over blind growth. While my business growth has been phenomenal, Iâve often been told that it could be even faster if I pushed my launches further, used social media more, or scaled a sales team. Sure, Iâve tested all of these and theyâre great. But I wanted more freedom to grow my business while not having to do them. Which is why I focused on my traffic, sales, product, and marketing systems. So that nowadays my business continues to grow without my having to do big live launches, live webinars every week, or be on social media every day. >> I decided on sales policies that would attract the best customers. As a small example, I donât offer a guarantee or open-ended refund policy. When someone buys from me, I want them to be excited for what theyâre getting and ready to use it. Which means they get the best results, and I get the best clients who are happy to pay. Thatâs the reason I have the reputation I now do for best-in-class products and results. (Not to mention much higher profit margins and much less time wasted dealing with non-ideal customers than the industry norm.) >> I set up my business so that I never âneedâ a sale or have to âconvinceâ someone to buy. If youâve ever emailed in about one of my courses, you know the drill. My support team will happily answer all your questions, and then weâll mirror it back to you: âAre you ready to use the course to get the results you want?â Plus, when itâs absolutely not a good fit, weâll tell you. Because itâs way more fun, enjoyable, and profitable to sell only to people you want to and believe you can help. Which you can do when youâve set up such strong business systems that sales are always coming in, so you never âneedâ that next sale. And by the way, building your business for the future doesnât mean you donât get to have fast results too. Heck, we crossed over a million dollars in sales in year one. Hereâs how I like to think about it⦠Do the things that help you BOTH: â¦Build your business for the NOW (by making sales and growing your business) â¦AND set you up for the business you want to have a year, three years, ten years from now (by also laying the foundation for the systems thatâll give you more and more Freedom every day along the way).
