I hate to say this… But I’m not an AirPods fan. Unlike Stephen, who loves his so much I’m always having to repeat what I said — because he seems to always have them in! See, my parents have been in town for the past week. And every day, I’ve been Uber’ing between their hotel and my place. But I don’t like “wasting” a ride doing nothing. (I don’t feel this way about anything else, but there’s something about commuting that just gets me.) So before I head out, I’ve got an audiobook in mind that I’m excited to listen to. I’ve got my AirPods in my bag this time, because I learned my lesson from the first day — when I just plain forgot them. But as I put them in my ear, I realize… They’re out of battery! UGH. Another day, another wasted commute. So as soon as I get home, I plug them in to charge them. This way, the next day, I’ll get to listen to my book. For sure. Except… I forget to bring them with me. Nice. Sometimes, I just wish for the good old days when we had long wires that made it easy to find our headphones and meant we never had to worry about recharging them. And if thinking this way — as I do about a LOT of things — makes me a “tech grandma,” as Stephen likes to say? Then so be it. Because in business, it’s better to be the equivalent of wired headphones anyways… First and foremost, you gotta be easy to “find.” If I added up all the time I’ve spent looking for that tiny AirPods case? Well…it’d be a lot. And I don’t really have a choice, because I’m committed to them now. But your customers do. In fact, they’ve got plenty of other options if your messaging isn’t clear and you don’t have systems for helping new potential customers find you. But you can’t just be easy to find either. You’ve also got to be easy to “use.” Whether it’s your free content or your paid content… It’s gotta be simple to follow and easy to understand. Ideally, in the most concise, fastest way possible. Not to mention that you’ll also want to avoid needing “recharges.” You know, where you’re “on” for a bit with your content… And then “off” for a bit because you got discouraged or burned out, or…life just happened. No judgment — been there too (many times). But the fact is: It’s not good for trust or relationship building. Which means it’s not good for business. OK, I got a little silly with this email. Which usually happens when I hang around my parents for a bit and start regressing into some of my childhood habits. (I was a handful! Thanks Ma & Ba for putting up with me.) But the point is very serious: It’s not complicated to build an online coaching/course business. Which of course doesn’t mean it’s easy .
