My highlight of the weekend: I was a GOOD friend. See, Saturday was tiring. Super fun - but exhausting. Shoutout to one of my favorite photographers, Wendy Yalom. She and her team brought it all day long as we drove around the city and found the coolest spots, which she’d meticulously scouted beforehand. Thankfully, we only needed about 15 minutes per location. Because I’ve finally - after years of photoshoots - figured out how to call up my natural smile on command. Not too smiley. But amped up just enough for the camera so that it still comes across. But even if I hadn’t, I don’t think the security guards watching us suspiciously from the side would have tolerated us - three loud and excited strangers - snapping photos against their beautiful walls, much longer than that anyways. With all the excitement though, my introverted self was ready for some serious alone-time by the time we wrapped up around 7pm. Which is what I would normally have spent all Sunday doing. However, sometimes your friends need you more than you need to recharge. Stephen and I had finally persuaded one of our good friends to come over on Sunday. So she could get out of her apartment, and get her mind off her tough recent breakup. But I just could not get up the energy to be anything more than…well, present. So I’m wearing my sweats - which I would normally not do in company. (I can hear my Dad’s voice already, “How you present yourself shows respect for yourself and the people you’re with.”) Plus, I’m making conversation - but it’s far from anything even remotely brilliant or witty. In fact, what I ended up doing most of the day was reflecting on topics we’d talked about before… Specifically, why the now-ex logically speaking wasn’t actually a good fit. But this time, something different happened… She was finally ready to hear it. It didn’t matter that we’d talked about it - many times - before. Because it took all this repetition for it to truly land. The same goes for all your content. Creating a business that adds value - especially through coaching, consulting, or education - isn’t about coming up with brilliant new ideas all the time. (Let’s be honest - how often does that really happen, right?) Even more important is identifying your key ideas, and being able to communicate them - consistently and creatively - so they actually land. I like to think about it this way: What you have to say is what you have to say. It also means that if you put in the work upfront, it gets easier after that. Like one of my favorite examples of walking this talk myself: I like to reuse my best emails once a year. Readers who weren’t around last year, still get to read some of my best stuff. And readers who have already read it? Get a needed reminder. And often, new helpful AHA’s. Because now it’s landing completely differently. Plus, when you think about it this way… Not only does your work get a lot easier. (Fewer emails to write each year.) But you’re also able to spend more time creating higher-quality content assets - which are more valuable to your audience too - because you can reuse them. Plus, you get a break from running on that content-creation hamster wheel, having to crank out new content non-stop. So if you’ve been feeling burned out trying to create new content all the time, or you’ve heard you can reuse content, but it hasn’t felt right to do so… Hope this helps you think about it from a different angle. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
