Stephen’s pretty easy going most of the time, but there’s one thing I do that drives him crazy: The way I boil eggs. Or rather, how I drop eggs into boiling water. He likes to put the egg on a spoon and gently roll it in so the egg doesn’t crack. Me? I don’t have the patience for that. So I just drop ‘em in. Which invariably means that my eggs end up warped, with ugly soft “growths” outside the shell from where it cracked and the egg white escaped. Yum. While Stephen’s eggs are always smooth and perfect. As with most things, just one little detail can make such a big difference. And that’s true whether it’s something as simple as boiling an egg, or something slightly more complicated, like building your email list and growing your audience. I often get asked—especially by affiliate partners and clients—how I built such a high-quality email list. Want to know the “secret” I share with them? Well, the truth is… I don’t have one! Seriously. Because it’s not about having a “secret” strategy or list-building tip that no one knows. (Although yes, it’s important to have the right strategy for your business and goals.) After all, there are only so many list-building strategies. And they all boil down to just a few principles. So what is it actually about? It’s about the little details that made a big difference when implementing the right strategies. For example, does it matter if… You post five times on social media every day (since according to the “experts,” that’s a sure-fire way to grow your audience)... BUT you aren’t posting in the right places. Or you aren’t posting the right content. Or you aren’t saying it in a way that connects with people. As Stephen, I, and those eggs can attest to: Same strategy + Different implementation = BIG difference. That’s also the reason why I don’t recommend wasting a lot of time trying to figure out the perfect strategy. Instead, what I do is a lot simpler AND more effective… I’ll choose a few strategies I believe in, implement them in the best way possible, and repeat. Then, I’ll focus the rest of my time on more important things as my audience and impact continue to grow. Millions of dollars in sales, thousands of clients, and hundreds of thousands of readers later, that system has worked out pretty well for me. And it’s a lot more enjoyable than spending my time obsessing over what the “right” strategy is. Plus, you actually get results faster too. But if that’s true, then why isn’t everyone doing it? In my experienced opinion, it’s because you’re being taught the wrong things… …To focus on tactics instead of real growth …To look for the “perfect” strategy instead of the right one …And to make things unnecessarily hard in the process Because honestly, growing your audience—and as a result, your income and your impact—is incredibly simple when done right. (Note: Simple is not the same as easy.) It’s when it’s NOT done right that it becomes incredibly complicated. Over the next few days, I’m going to be talking about how to grow your audience—specifically your email list, which is the highest quality, most profitable, most enjoyable type of audience you can grow—in the simplest and fastest way possible. While doing so, I’m also going to be opening enrollment for my My First 10K Subscribers course for those who want my best tips and learnings from growing my own email list to 10,000+ subscribers, from scratch, in my first year online. If you’re interested in growing your email list, you’ll love what I have to share.
