...is how Gary Halbert starts his sales page for finding a girlfriend. Yes, one of the best copywriters of all time (objectively so: he’s had more multi-million dollar winning campaigns in different niches than any other copywriter) used a sales page to solve one of his biggest problems. [It’s a great read.]( But as entertaining as his descriptions of past girlfriends are (Zelda The Princess, Sherry The Tragic, and Claudia The Actress), that’s not the point. The point is him walking his talk: “There is no business problem, or 'any' problem for that matter, that cannot be solved with a great sales letter.” (Not just sales problems, but apparently also loooove problems as well.) Problems I ’ve personally used a sales page to solve? …Convincing my high school principal that the Space Club deserved to get funding (Spoiler alert: It didn’t work. Apparently, you can’t just write any old sales page. It has to be effective too.) ...Persuading Princeton I’d be a valuable member of their student body. (Success!) ...And negotiating the pricey hybrid spring/foam mattress my husband just had to have (Yes, in case you didn’t know, you CAN and should negotiate mattress pricing. Stephen was right: It is worth it. And a good verbal sales page can work just as well as a written one.) No matter the problem, the way a good sales page solves it is the same. By answering these questions: Question 1: What’s the product (and what problem does it solve)? [in Halbert’s case]( , the product = himself. In my Space Club funding request, the product = Space Club. (Yeah!) Question 2: Why should anyone care? In Halbert’s example? He’s “generous, creative...and reasonably attractive.” Mine? Space is cool. NOT a convincing argument fyi. Question 3: Who’s your ideal “buyer”? AKA Halbert’s ideal woman. And my ideal funding amount. Question 4: Who’s NOT an ideal buyer? Halbert: “A woman who can’t stand prosperity” Teenage Luisa: … Didn’t do this. Another mistake. Question 5: What should someone do if they want your product? Write to “Gary.” Give Luisa funding. Most obviously, and probably more relevant to why you’re here (although you might be looking for a lover and/or think space is cool too)… Sales pages solve a BIG business problem for your business… The problem of not having sales. AKA: The problem of not having the business or revenue you want. Which is really the problem of: Not having the lifestyle, income, impact, and freedom that go hand-in-hand with having a successful business. So how does a sales-wanting smart person go about getting a good sales page? NOT by doing the thing I’m going to tell you about tomorrow. (It’s a common—and very expensive—mistake. Speaking from personal experience.) Luisa Zhou --------------------------------------------------------------- [Unsubscribe]( Zhou Ventures, Inc., 54 State Street, Ste 804 #5511 Albany, NY 12207
