A private client recently asked me, “How are you able to grow so fast all the time?” It reminded me of a different question Jeff Bezos supposedly once asked Warren Buffett… “If your strategy for getting rich is so simple, why don’t more people do it?” Warren Buffett’s response? “Because everyone wants to get rich fast.” And in my opinion, based on almost a decade of experience and thousands of people helped? I truly believe ANYONE can build a business (if you’re willing to do the work of course). Because at this point, the process is fairly simple: You sell something others want to buy—and there’s a market for pretty much anything these days. Then, you let people know about it. But a lot of aspiring entrepreneurs give up simply because it doesn’t happen “fast” enough for them. In fact, I’ll go as far as to say… The only thing standing between many people and the business of their dreams? Is that one word. Which brings us back to my client’s question… So how do I grow so fast while also being “anti-fast”? Because just like Buffett’s strategy is actually not that slow, and in fact has made him one of the wealthiest people in the world… NOT trying to grow fast is how you grow fast. Here are a few examples… **If a strategy doesn’t work immediately, I don’t take that to mean it won’t work for me. I’m willing to put in the time and work to figure it out…which means that once I DO (because most things are just a matter of time), the big results quickly follow. **I’m willing to forgo “short-term” sales for long-term assets—which after you put in the work, compounds your growth faster. For example, it’s easier and faster to run live programs where you just hop on a Zoom and talk. But I’d rather take a little longer to create thoughtful courses that can stand the test of time and scale, and drive more sales for much longer to come. **Taking the above even further, I’m even willing to sacrifice short-term sales for long-term value. Like when I don’t accept clients I don’t think are a good fit. Sure, the trade-off is “giving up” a sale now—but the longer-term payoff is not having to waste my time and energy dealing with non-ideal clients, and being able to use that time and energy in more effective ways to grow my business. Not to mention that, even more importantly—this builds a stronger reputation for integrity, only taking on clients I can help, and thus being able to help the clients I DO work with get even better results…all of which leads to attracting more high-quality clients and making more sales. **I’m willing to commit to a strategy for months, even years, before it pays off. This doesn’t mean I don’t do my best to get the strategy ROI-positive asap. But when you’re willing to do more and for longer than most are, you reach a point where there’s actually less competition…because most of your competitors have given up on that strategy and moved on to the next shiny new thing. Most people will read this and keep on chasing that “fast” result, which unfortunately, is the exact thing that will keep them from getting results fast. But if you’re willing to take this in and think about how you can apply this to yourself and your own business, I’d be very surprised indeed if it didn’t help you grow your business a lot faster and bigger than you might have thought possible.
