He didn’t believe my response! But I think this is a much better way to run your coaching Let me share a different perspective on “getting” clients: Take this recent interaction with an applicant for my private coaching… A few days after his application, he emailed in: “I'm reaching out because I sent an Instagram message along with filling out the form for a 1:1 [coaching] but haven't heard back for a few days. Just checking in to see what to do next!” We thanked him for his application and let him know I didn’t think we were a fit to work together. His response: “Hi…Just curious, why is it that I'm not a good fit? Because I refuse to believe that perspective without having to meet me and really get to see what's going on objectively.” Why did I “turn away” a good potential client, who was ready to pay and even actively following up, without even a sales call? Well, as a coach, I have a few beliefs that are very different from the “norm”: >> When I use the word “apply” on my coaching page, it’s not a sales tactic. Coaching is a two-way street. It’s not just a client deciding to hire you. It’s also you deciding to dedicate your time and energy to a client. >> I can identify very quickly if I want to work with someone or not. If not, I appreciate their interest but there’s no need to spend any time on a “discovery call” or any such nonsense. Their application and their existing online presence will tell me what I need to know 99.99% of the time. As in, if I can help them, and if they’re the kind of person I want to work with. (As my existing online presence will do for them too—again, two-way street.) This is about respecting your own time as a coach and teaching your people to respect it as well. Note: Be patient with yourself, as this does take time to develop—not only to recognize who you can best help and want to work with, but also to develop your confidence to follow your intuition. >> In the same way, I’m fine letting clients come to me when they’re ready. Some want to work with me within a short time of “finding” me, and others immerse themselves in my world for years before taking that step, if ever. In the best way possible, I don’t care when that timing is. (Possibly even more important, this is not just new-age feel good b.s. To be able to do this, you want to set up your business so that you can “afford” to not care, because you have plenty of sales coming in and aren’t “needing” your next client.) This creates the best, most fruitful coaching relationships and results anyways. And is the reason why I don’t need secret persuasive “tactics” and can sell 5- to 6-figure coaching packages without needing to require a sales call first. …. A very different perspective from the way most are teaching coaching business sales these days. But in my experience, much more enjoyable…and much more profitable too. Of course, none of this happens by accident. After all, you create your own reality. Especially in business. To learn how I created this… The unique combination of positioning, confidence, client results, and my own business results that pushed me to the top of a very crowded industry, and fairly quickly too… So you can apply it to your own coaching business… Go here for all the details: [luisazhou.com/the-coach]() Contrary to popular unwisdom that’ll have you “chasing” or “persuading” or trying to “get” clients to work with you, there’s a much more dignified and enjoyable way available to grow your business. One that’ll have you commanding the attention you deserve, working with clients who respect you (and thus do the work and get better results too), and getting paid what you deserve as well.
