Can you guess? I’m pretty sure you’ll agree once you hear the answer If you like history/war/strategy/leadership, you’ll appreciate today’s email: Every kid growing up in the U.S. learned about George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware, and how key it was to the American Revolution. But I didn’t learn until recently why it was that important… Things were so bad in December 1776 that Washington actually wrote to his brother: “I think the game is pretty near up.” The Continental Army had just suffered a heavy string of defeats, losing New York to the British. Hundreds of soldiers were sick. And many had no supplies, including blankets or shoes—especially scary since winter was coming. Even scarier, many of his men’s enlistments were expiring at the end of the year, after which they were planning on leaving the army and going home. Because most of them believed their cause was lost. Washington knew though that they could still win. If he could deliver a victory to rally morale and capture much-needed supplies. Which is how he set his sights on Trenton, an important military outpost manned by 1,400 Hessian mercenaries. The day of the planned strike, Washington’s troops were actually just one of three groups that were supposed to attack. But a cold rain turned into freezing rain, sleet, and snow. And it got so bad the other two groups had to turn back. The worst part (according to many of the soldiers afterwards)? After crossing the freezing Delaware, Washington’s troops still had to endure a nine-mile hike to Trenton. While the weather kept getting even worse. But, there was a silver lining… The same blizzard that rendered their gunpowder too wet to use and bloodied the feet of those marching without shoes, caused the Hessians to retreat to their barracks and relax because they believed no one would attack during such a storm. That plus the cover the blizzard provided Washington’s men helped them win in less than an hour. The timing of their attack on that particular day, and the timing of that victory right before many of their men’s enlistments expired, was key to turning the tide of lagging morale and persuading many to re-enlist. As it is in war, so it is in business (and life): Timing is everything. In your business, you’re faced with countless critical decisions every day… Is what you’re focusing on right now really the best use of your time? But what if there’s something else you could be doing that would be getting results much faster? And yet, you’ve also heard that sometimes you have to build your foundation and set up your systems before you can reap the rewards. So which is it? And how do you know which principle applies best for you right now? Should you make this or that investment now? If you invest too soon…you use up precious cash flow that you might need to keep your business going. If you invest too late…you either burn yourself out trying to do too much on your own or your business breaks because you can no longer grow. Is now the right timing to roll out this strategy? If you roll it out too early, you risk running out of time, money, and/or motivation before you start seeing it work. But if you roll it out too late, you’ll have missed out on who knows how much revenue, and potentially the build-up time you needed to ensure your business adapts to changing times. Knowing how to determine the perfect timing for everything is something I’ll be sharing in the upcoming DONE trainings. Including the #1 criteria to use when deciding when to do something…so that you always know when to do what at the perfect time in your business, and thus grow it in the fastest, most profitable way possible. And how to choose which business strategies to focus on, and when…thus ensuring you never waste time on something that won’t work for you. If you hate the idea of wasting time or energy, or potentially missing out on revenue or opportunities because of bad timing… And you want to know how to make sure you’re spending your time on the best thing for you and your business at any given point… So that you get the best results in your business while working less… And thus have more time to focus on what you actually enjoy in your business and life… You’ll love everything I have to share in the DONE trainings: [luisazhou.com/done](=) We start in just 2 more days. Luisa Zhou PS - What I’ll be sharing in DONE applies no matter where you are in your business right now, whether you’re starting out as a side hustle or scaling to 7-figures. If you’re working your job and building a “side hustle,” I’d say this applies even more…because you have even less time to work on your business!
