Counterintuitive, but incredibly effective. {NAME}, As an awkward kid with no dress sense, athletic abilities, or natural charisma, I had one skill that gave me confidence. My ability to perform flawlessly during piano competitions. (Of course it was one of those stereotypical Asian kid things.) How I developed this ability is a story worth telling. Because it did not come naturally. In fact, my first performance, I completely blanked about 3 minutes in, had to restart twice, and eventually gave up without completing the piece, because I just couldnât remember the notes. Having to face my parents, my teacher, and the crowd, as I got off the piano bench and made my bow, I felt so embarrassed that I promised myself I would do whatever it took to never have to feel that way again. So before my next competition, I did the one thing I could think of to make sure I wouldnât blank on a note again⦠I practiced again and again, while *making* myself forget in as many places, and as often, as I could. Because then, Iâd focus on the note Iâd forgotten, and figure out a way to remember that specific note and the notes around it so that even if my muscle memory gave out in that place again, Iâd be able to keep on going. Doing this was not easy. Iâd often sit in front of the piano for three hours or more, repeating a piece countless times as I forced myself to do this. But it was worth it: I never blanked during a performance again. No matter how nervous I felt playing in front of up to hundreds of people, or how long and complicated a piece was. People (mostly the parents of my competitors) would often come up to me after a performance and tell me⦠âWow, not a single mistake! Youâre lucky itâs so easy for you - you must have such a good memory!â Iâd just smile and thank them. Because if they only knew. I didnât realize it back then, but this idea of making something harder for yourself than it has to be, so that the end result is truly flawless, is a common âsecretâ used by top performers. Like [Jerry Senfield](=) in preparing for his stand-up routines, [martial arts](=) in general, and [Kobe Bryant]( as he trained himself to become the best basketball player of all time. Itâs the same principle Iâve used to build a business that makes making 7-figures look âeasyâ... â¦I tested hundreds of iterations for my marketing campaigns and sales funnels â¦I practiced writing sales pages, emails, and postsâfor myself and my clientsâevery day, for over seven years â¦I studied traffic generation, copywriting, marketing, and sales for years, like it was my PhD. (Iâm talking about studying from the real masters, like Kennedy, Barnum, Ogilvy, Schwartz, Disney; not pop-up internet marketing gurus) â¦I created 20+ full-fledged courses, not to mention countless ad hoc trainings, workshops, and live programs, to ensure that I wasnât just a one-hit wonder â¦I personally worked with 100+ clients on their products, marketing campaigns, and sales assets to ensure that I could consistently deliver results no matter the business, model, or industry Point being⦠Itâs fun to think about making things as easy as possible. And thatâs certainly one way to go about it. But, if youâre serious about becoming one of the best (or at least, becoming a top performer)⦠Then, Iâve got some counterintuitive advice for you today⦠Embrace the hard instead. Itâs how youâll end up building the âeasiest,â best business anyways.
