{NAME}, Every child dreams that their parents will be proud of them. But sometimes, the reality just doesn’t quite match up, does it? Especially not when you’re trying to become an entrepreneur in a world where so many people are fine with being an employee. They don’t understand why you would dare to dream of a better life for yourself, and they don’t get why you invest in programs or trainings to help you do it. There are plenty of moments back when I was starting out where my own friends and family looked at me like I was crazy for choosing this path. I remember how ecstatic I was when I got my first client... I was still working in my day job, spending 9-5 behind my desk and then coming home at night to build my business by myself. Everything was riding on making it work, because I knew I didn’t want to be one of those people who counts down the days to retirement. Of course, I couldn’t wait to tell my parents. Surely, they would be as excited as I was. After all, I’d accomplished something that felt downright impossible — and validated my business idea at the same time. Now I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I could make working for myself work for me. But even with this huge win under my belt, my parents still weren’t on my side. In fact, when I told my dad that I’d gotten my first paying client, his exact words back to me were, “How did you scam them?” Ouch. Especially since what I was doing in my business at the time was EXACTLY what I was being paid to do in my job. It hurt (a lot) that he didn’t believe in me, but ultimately, what mattered more was that I believed in myself. Make sure that no matter what your friends and family might be saying to you right now about starting a business, {NAME}, you still put your own opinion first.
