I carry the lessons ballet taught me everywhere I go. [Lisa Blunt Rochester for Congress]( [Lisa Blunt Rochester for Congress]( Hi there, Ballet has always been a significant part of my story. My parents enrolled me in lessons when I was young, and I stuck with it into high school. I quickly learned that beneath the beauty of dance there is struggle. Blisters. Sore Muscles. Slippers that don’t fit quite right. It took me until I was a little older to see that those invisible struggles beneath the surface don’t just happen in ballet. For my family, it was part of everyday life – but I never would’ve known. When I was born, my Dad was still in college and we lived with my grandparents. When I was a little older, my Dad got our own apartment and then we moved into our first house in a public housing complex. I have a closely-knit extended family and thanks to them, I never wanted for anything. They made sure I had access to opportunity, like starting my ballet classes after we moved out of public housing. I’ve since hung up my slippers but I carry the lessons ballet taught me everywhere I go. Many hard-working families just like the one I grew up in are struggling below the surface, even if we can’t always see it. I’m fighting for them – for you – every day, but I need your support to keep going. [If you’re able, could you please donate $10 or more to my campaign? I’m laser-focused on ensuring that more families have access to every opportunity possible and the more folks who chip in to this email, the more time I can devote to that fight.]( I hope that you are able to help.
