Today I wanted to take a moment to share my story about why Iâm running with you and why this campaign means so much to me. Time and time again, I watched her give all she had to our community, even when she didnât have much to give. After my grandmother had a stroke, our family was forced to choose between paying for her life-saving medicine and our mortgage. It was these experiences â growing up in a community where people worked multiple jobs to make ends meet â that inspired me to dedicate my life to public service. I knew I had to serve our community. [$1,500 MIDNIGHT GOAL: CHIP IN $3 NOW »]( I went on to be one of the first women to graduate from Virginia Military Institute and earned a law degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. I then became a public defender, and quickly saw how people in the courtroom were treated differently based on their race, economic status, or zip code. So in 2017, I ran for the Virginia House of Delegates and flipped a historically red district blue. Throughout my time as a Delegate, I spearheaded a pro-woman, pro-labor, and pro-environment agenda, and led the charge to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment in Virginia as the billâs chief sponsor. But now, with a razor-thin Democratic majority in the state Senate, we canât take this progress for granted, {NAME}!
