To be frank, he is emblematic of the status quo that has simply left too many people behind. [Jennifer Carroll Foy for Governor]( {NAME}, 42-year career politician Terry McAuliffe just announced he’s entering our race for governor. He’s spent months preparing to leverage his insider connections and his $2+ million war chest to muscle his way into the governor’s seat. I’m ready to challenge the politics of the past with my commitment to a better future -- but it’s going to take everything we’ve got. [Will you stand with me and help change the status quo?]( [Chip in →]( I respect the work that former governor Terry McAuliffe has done. But to be frank, he is emblematic of the status quo that has simply left too many people behind. We cannot take solace in the politics of the past. The politics of the past do not put food on the table. They do not pay the bills. They do not keep working families healthy, safe, or well. They never have. We need a leader with the courage to make the right choices for our Commonwealth. McAuliffe chose to cozy up to corporate donors. He chose to take money from Dominion Energy. He chose to sit behind closed doors in Richmond while working families struggled to make ends meet across the Commonwealth. My family was one of them. I grew up in Petersburg, one of the most neglected cities in Virginia, raised by my grandmother. I remember sitting at my kitchen table at a young age, debating whether to cut my grandmother's pills in half to save money. I remember taking a leave from my education to care for my grandmother after she suffered a stroke that left her paralyzed. When Terry McAuliffe was raising money at the DNC, I was waking up before dawn every morning, training with my fellow cadets, and defying the odds to become one of the first women to graduate from Virginia Military Institute. When Terry McAuliffe lost his first run for Governor before spinning it into a lucrative fellowship at Harvard, I was working my way through law school while raising two foster children. When Terry McAuliffe held office after winning one of the lowest-turnout elections in Virginia history, I was working long days and nights as a public defender, helping people suffering from mental health issues, addiction, and poverty break out of the vicious legal cycle that kept them from getting by. I have firsthand experience with the issues that other politicians prefer to sweep under the rug -- and I have the experience necessary to fix them. My grandmother had me in church three times a week growing up, where I learned the values that still drive me today. I’m the first public defender ever elected to the Virginia General Assembly. In the legislature, I championed the Equal Rights Amendment, expanded Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, and won bipartisan victories for teachers, veterans, and our environment. I introduced much-needed criminal justice and drug reform bills long before many career politicians were willing to take a stand.  I am ready to change the status quo. [Are you?]( [Chip in $25 →]( [Chip in $50 →]( [Chip in $100 →]( [Chip in $200 →]( [Chip in $250 →]( [Other amount →]( Sincerely, [JCF]( Jennifer Carroll Foy [Jennifer Carroll Foy For Governor]( Jennifer Carroll Foy was born and raised in Petersburg and was one of the first Black women to graduate from the Virginia Military Institute. Jennifer then served as a public defender and foster mom. In 2017, she flipped a Republican district as a first-time candidate pregnant with twins. During her two terms as Delegate, Jennifer championed the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, helped expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, and advocated for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable communities. Jennifer is committed to creating a Virginia that works for everyone. Help her make Virginia’s future better than its past.
