I hate when people ask me what the best savings account is. It’s honestly To view this email as a web page, [click here]() {NAME}, Ugh! I hate when people ask me what the best savings account is. It’s honestly a waste of a question. - [The answer is in my book]() - [The answer is in my book]() - [I talk about it in my book]() - And also [the answer is in my book]() Did I mention the answer is in my book? [Ramit Sethi] Here’s a copy… [Ramit holding IWT book] [A New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller now in a revised second edition]() Just kidding. But all joking aside, this is a $3 question. It’s more important to ask the $30,000 questions These focus on the areas in your life that actually matter: - What is your target savings rate? Once you decide on how much you want to save – maybe it’s 10% or 20% – automate it so you don’t have to think about it! - How much are you paying in investment fees? Paying a financial advisor 1% could end up costing you 28% in returns. - What is your asset allocation? Having a portfolio that fits your age and goals can put tens of thousands of dollars back into your pocket… every year. Getting these right will have a much more significant impact on your life. They’re Big Wins. And you can use the concept of $30,000 questions vs. $3 questions to get some Big Wins as you explore your dream career. Yesterday, I emailed you a series of questions to home in on potential dream jobs. The final step was to talk to people working those jobs to see if you’d actually enjoy them. It’s only been a day, but I’ve heard from many people. Some have even negotiated raises worth tens of thousands of dollars in just 15 minutes with no stress from [my free content](). If you do end up meeting people to research your dream career, asking better questions will instantly set you apart. It might even be the doorway to getting an offer. [$3 Dream Job Questions] Vague questions are likely to get vague answers. Plus, people don’t want to be negative with people they’ve just met. So you’re likely to get a sugar-coated version of things. (Remember: You want to find out if you’d actually enjoy the job!) And you don’t want to put all the burden on the busy person. You want to come armed with great research…and great questions. [$30,000 Dream Job questions] In these examples, you’re showing that you did some research and your questions are much more nuanced and specific. You’re more likely to get answers that’ll help you figure out if you’d actually like the job, and some insight into how to get a foot in the door. Bonus: You did research on the other person. That makes them feel like an expert, and they’ll love that! What to do next Create a list of questions you have about landing your dream role at your dream company. Some examples to get you started: - How can I get a foot in the door without the right experience? - Will I need to relocate to have a career in this field? - What can I expect to earn? Then, try to find the answers to these questions on your own. Start with Google, Reddit, Quora, and maybe some industry-specific sites. Then see if you can find a book on that career path. Jot down any answers you get. Notice any conflicting information. When you meet with people, you can get their two cents on everything! Nobody does this level of research! You’ll look like a real pro. They’ll love it! [Signature] You may be new to IWT.
