How are you feeling? Stressed? Tired? Dreading another workweek? Stressed? Tired? Dreading another workweek? We spend 8 to 10 hours every day at work. So if you hate your job, or it’s just “okay,” you can’t expect to live a truly Rich Life. [Ramit and his wife at the gym] I took this picture on a Tuesday afternoon. I designed my work life intentionally so I could do stuff like this. Not sure how you feel about your job? Read the following 5 warning signs. If you find yourself nodding along to any of these, you probably need to rethink your work life. #1: You get the Sunday Scaries. If you find it hard to enjoy Sunday afternoons because you have anxiety about starting another week at work — you’re not alone. According to a LinkedIn survey, 75% of professionals in America say they experience the “[Sunday scaries](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pyn5nXHsW50kH_H6lZ3p6W8GpdZj5WDqT3W42QRQ08jR-MFW986pgz7JPcb4W3ZJJ4c7HKlY3W4zD9_68Kl5LgW1MrWjH67gdcQW5Pt1lg2f9LvWVKX8LS5wcGqvV6hRC79fbrhTW7ck_zr1jMwlbW6c6ZmK3ps5SqW2s97ms1GJplFW7d6R2m5n6mDpW4RlPTB9bfWmvW8qWCJg842DrpVWRHMw5SJfcfW7Ct__31_jvCvW4Hw_Bl2thWw0W8qbvxj1GT8y1N7Z9fPVXy5qjW548bzW9dH0TzW4yQNx76mRm3_W8bQtTz8m40XwW86CzGh7Q8d_XW48hcz-81g4TCW8WK7kx79Nrb-W7LFyqk2D3LMsW1DpyLM4klty0N4dcNP_KLkg7W3D07Ll3Ly7-cW7RWWKW27yrpKW4lrPyq1lQqKPf8bc0c604).” Guys, that’s not OK! Freaking out on Sundays is NOT part of my Rich Life. And I’m guessing it’s not part of yours, either. You deserve to enjoy your weekends! #2: You’re underpaid. Figuring out what you’re really worth is surprisingly hard. Your boss isn’t going to email you and say: “Wow, {NAME} — you've been doing SUCH a good job here. I'd happily pay an extra $20,000 a year just to keep you on the team.” You have to figure that out on your own. Here’s an easy way to do that: Ask yourself, how many of the following are true for you? - Once, you told yourself that if you worked hard, your boss would recognize you and give you a raise. It didn’t happen, so you felt rejected and undervalued. - You didn’t negotiate your salary when you got the job. Now, every conversation you have about pay is frustrating and disappointing. - You know you should be paid more, but…you can’t figure out exactly how. You sometimes wonder, “Can it even happen at this job?” If you answered yes to ANY of these, it’s a warning sign you’re not being paid what you’re worth. But now’s your chance to do something about it! The simple way to figure out how much you SHOULD be getting paid will take a minute. Just use [Payscale](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pzz3qn9gW7lCdLW6lZ3lpW3FWMYj1wC5j9W3TxnBl7MpNRXW4rhcN74VhpbwN57prQ3wgzSLVWPPMV5VlDqYN74KwnslT9vxW52_-Tf6L13TRW7KpYhc8g7vD9W3PyK_v5VltNcN2mVFWBT8y9rW5pl8rl4stM56W6Sr7kP95QWx3W1YzzXh1zhQxxVZb9dF8qyJ_4W8fBg_d6qDB0_V7NbQv2MnLR7W6-7z2S4H5sh4W4dRr7W4hJjWxW215qXD78kcBlW3KL_4F8LPwt-W4gFmkK7BZlk_W64gsGQ645hCtW4yrShC5Q2zLnW7X3FDT2DwNJNf2jSxgH04), [Glassdoor](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pzz3qn9gW7lCdLW6lZ3ljW67mPBl7hpbgQW8gKSGf4V1YVWW3V2dns3RTdtHW3gcnjt6D6H9pW9fgdfp1cfYJ5W7ShbQD4t5CX5Vgh42B7DzktqW6Jkc5X8Fh83KW1rDFTC7_y2sHW63m4wd5j35rsW87PMwQ3-_4NZV2dZVN3ZB1JkV-pG658XKm3bW5jnSn53N0FT2W8JPbY926GJD5W12GPgB3wkHM2Vd3hGC7zn2GdW1rqxLK5M7dllW4WvzNw1pqfjZN883kTYGKkQtV_tP2_4238N9W72MYSz5Nrg4CW2PNjtn6_2xr5W8BfbBH6jpzGpf6zW_3b04), or [Salary.com](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pzg3qn9gW6N1vHY6lZ3pPW7LchXw3lrSKfW1xnhDn67f8bLN4P3BBNbj3_dW6g-syH5b2dFXW5BqR7T92zyb4W8LWV3b3L-Qd4W2s0gtB5FpLGBW51bt2l6DvRJ1W2cgcgn4BxcfZW8NWv607DkyC-W5lGL-W7xhv_-VLlWkY3MDJhwN5BKyvDJzFYjVwXV4Q3btDJPN4Qs2M21yqdYW3rSsDs7k28DzW2mPKsQ7kvrVxW7ZWM2N7rv-J5W7N_HfR5FZ5hrW3WCjnZ4j2KfVW8ndwxg2sx5pWW2BZtNJ9cPS9Bf1wRkyg04) to find the average salary ranges for your job title. Look up your job title now and how much you should be paid for your performance. Who knows! The data might surprise you. #3: You’re worried you’ll lose your job. You’ve probably seen it on the news. For the past couple of years, people have been getting laid off — and the trend is continuing in 2024. Here’s one recap from [TechCrunch](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pB83qn9gW8wLKSR6lZ3pCW6f7kT01PqQ6TW7lWfYc4LpqPHW93wTGf3N6p1bW6ftcyP7WTgCGW7S2lj51sb7PgW6Sw1zg93tdm8W7Gf2W72YH3CmV1HDB54-tcCdW7cfwmR1FF0bMW6S2VSM1-WfXHW70cDfw4ljZQgW8LPzYw8TvwpkW7X4jz57Y5MkCW59q8ZD5x4vHRW8V5jGg7rCPcvW8q_bhL3rQjWxW3xcfDs73Shq9VH-JbH24NYJBN1y9FYwwn1dmW17YFSq4GBhMxW3qsTzy1Z_Fc2W6VDQXV3QLt27W6p-CGC8z7bzvW5fhLd54gF7mVV_GSdP7Q0_pRW9jVNqX8Q5zL5W7WSXmh5j-16vW1MSbFF77BcsCf6KZ7Jg04). (We’re halfway through the year, and already 254 companies have cut 60,000 JOBS! And that’s just the tech industry.) It’s no wonder you feel like you could be next on the chopping block. Feeling worried about your job security is stressful. Here’s the secret: It’s often directly correlated to how stagnant your career has become. People who love their job are the ones learning, growing, advancing, and always looking for ways to provide more value. That means they don’t have the same worries about job security. #4: You dislike your team, boss, or company. Is your boss interested in your career development…or just your work output? Do you feel like you’re being micromanaged? Are your ideas and opinions getting ignored? If you’re feeling disrespected, babysat, forgotten, or underappreciated, that's a surefire sign to start looking for a better job. It doesn’t feel good being just another face at a company that doesn’t align with your values. Feeling unhappy and even bitter about your job is also the fast track to getting burnt out. Most people are surprised to find out burnout doesn’t come from too much work…it’s also related to how meaningful your work is to you. #5: You feel stagnant or stuck in your career. Have you had the same job title or salary for over 3 years? Have you already passed the peak of your career? Have you just “settled”? Most people have not only settled in their career, but all areas of their life. [What Settling Looks Like] Do any of these feel familiar? They settle and spend the next 20, 30, 40 years trudging along. Phoning it in. Accepting that being babysat by their boss is just part of life. Trying not to think about everything that could have been…if they had just tried something new. The worst part is, most people stay where they’re at because they can’t even think of a way out. They simply feel smothered — or stuck — and do nothing about it. This is how they feel for most of their 40+ year career. It shouldn’t be that way. I believe that our future is bigger than our past. So if any of these 5 warning signs resonated with you, get moving, today! Just because your job feels stagnant today doesn't mean it needs to stay that way for years to come. You DESERVE to feel fulfilled, secure, inspired, and — most of all — valued at work. It’s never too late to make a change for the better. Later this week, I’ll show you how to find and land a job you love. Stay tuned! [Ramit Sethi Signature] P.S. Most people unhappy in their jobs are underpaid. You deserve to earn more so you can enjoy your Rich Life. Take a moment to figure out how much you SHOULD be getting paid using [Payscale](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pzz3qn9gW7lCdLW6lZ3n9VT5V5D6HsY9LW6-8xK08GgpkHW28-hrD8nC0j6W4tTk5M8R7kzmW7H4Qqy2LSjXxMql6JY1lNnPW5dwbDp6gP2yVW4FzxWw5YhqZgVv7RGG6Jpst8W5Cf4dM7CqQ3DW5dBYjB1V-jw1W36cghr5hZNsXW6pdTB68vQGcfW354VSK5GVS8jW5WSWLB7WqHvxW7hQ-t32ZjjBbW21P9bK3hy5ZWMLBgY4nJddgW3LV_BK1T65pFW4qD8YB1BPNlqW3JDJTL5Mn02mW7LfZ2q2gwq97W4rKm8L16v72wW1P0Pgt7szlYqf7LC2DY04), [Glassdoor](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pzz3qn9gW7lCdLW6lZ3mlW2DWHjy6tbPshW2j2P4C9dmd6BW77vcYh6RnBSKW8tTX3j6tNnXDW5XxfmT7N0nMNVS5BDG9hYQ1gW3YXV365DDCDTW203r4m7k6M0JW2CSl2584bXv4Vd7pK94l4w_8W7vqSky528RrHN7KkPLlYyKdXW2bfVyp7tcXjmW3ZK36R85f99BW4G9rd65V8vlRW8ntzDG4Jg2xFW21k-VV6ZZGRvW1y_MRr5h92KgW5XCNPV813jt6W70DFfM95sxC_VV318Z7vBpKbW8-tf1R1JsKtzW7TjnzY2kVTCzW6Wbz6Z1Ly-ZGf162sYH04), or [Salary.com](113/d586LZ04/VWJH4B8LTJ9RN3nPsxFhggnnW3LfLlX5fF0LYN2L_pzg3qn9gW6N1vHY6lZ3p-W1JttPQ4CDmz0W72J2KV8wbn56W6v5rcq5G_5LWW3CdhYQ8zg-4mVs7g_14_BkH1W2jTp3j491gqJW53QcPh1vx21_W6TfCKD3vLsDrW4p9LH53ws74sW8Qq0yr2rQq-DW7YfgfB5ddHZ6W48kwWX70Lx5lW5j3Wgz5jP1BlW6VvQQr7nk9zPW8MNQHX6r0dfDW4zPlC66C3cFgW92WpFK2dl8NyW7Mm4NL4FhVPCW409wkF3WP5h6W7n-Ll31D9tQKVQqCxj6Jdkt6V8yF9F4dmkbZf7wKkXK04).
