ISSUE JUNE 23, 2020
[leading]
Major stock indexes closed higher Monday, led by technology-related shares, as investors weighed optimism over a quick recovery for the domestic economy, or V-shaped rebound, against evidence of an acceleration of COVID-19 infections in half of all U.S. states and elsewhere in the world.
High-flying technology companies that outshined the market during the pandemic helped propel major stock indexes higher on Monday, after the weekend saw cases of the disease caused by the novel strain of coronavirus pick up momentum as more U.S. states and businesses reopened.
Investors still view local governments as reluctant to reinstitute restrictions on social activities or stall plans to ease lockdown measures further, as the economy shows signs of improvement from the depths of the COVID-19 crisis.
âVirus numbers are picking up,â said Bruce Bittles, chief investment strategist at Robert W. Baird & Co. âBut itâs not to the extent that weâre looking at a shutdown again.â
Bittles said investors have become upbeat about better-than-expected U.S. economic data and hopes that Congress will pass another nearly $1 trillion fiscal stimulus package this summer.
âThatâs all a big positive for the economy,â he said.

Head shaking insanityâ¦
As nationwide anti-police sentiment spreads like wildfire throughout the country, one district in an area that is home to some of the countryâs most horrific school tragedies has voted to ban police officers from campuses.
Denver Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously last week to end its relationship with the Denver Police Department and will terminate a contract that currently places officers at schools to protect students.
Led by DPS Superintendent Susana Cordova the board passed a resolution Thursday that will reduce school resources officers in Denver schools by 25 percent by the end of 2020 with the goal of forcing the guardians of children off campus completely by the end of 2021.
[liberal]
The anti-police resolution wants to take funds currently allocated to protecting city schools by cops and redirect them to an army of âpsychologistsâ and ârestorative justice practitioners.â
The rhetoric defies all logic and â like many leftist ideas â throws public safety out the window in favor of protecting the feelings of a few.
Perhaps Cordova and the rest of the board should make the 14-mile commute to the Columbine Memorial near Littleton, which honors those murdered during the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.
Denverâs far-left school board has forgotten them, and theyâre apparently committed to ensuring that the current movement to delegitimize and defund police officers leaves other young Coloradans vulnerable to similar attacks.

Theyâve pushed their luck and the day is coming.
President Trump reacted Monday to an attempt by violent protesters to topple the statue of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square across the street from the White House.
âTen years in prison under the Veteranâs Memorial Preservation Act,â Trump wrote. âBeware!â
Trump commented after Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) shared a similar sentiment on Twitter.
âBy the way, criminal masterminds, youâre destroying a statue on federal property that commemorates the military service of Andrew Jackson, a crime that carries a 10-year sentence under the Veterans Memorial Preservation and Recognition Act,â he wrote. âAnd youâre on tape. Lock âem up!â

[crazy]
Whoa, this is crazy!
The government of India changed the military rules of engagement on Monday along its border with China to allow soldiers to use firearms against the Chinese in âextraordinaryâ circumstances, Indian media reported.
The move is a response to the massacre that took place last week in the Ladakh region after Chinese Peopleâs Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers reportedly pitched a tent on the Indian side of the border.Â
When Indian troops challenged them, the soldiers, who also did not have permission to use firearms, attacked the Indian troops with rocks, sticks, and clubs wrapped in barbed wire.Â
The bloody engagement reportedly left 20 Indian soldiers dead.Â
The Chinese have refused to confirm any casualties, but Indian officials have said the Chinese lost at least twice as many people as the Indians.
New Delhi revised the rules of engagement following the fight to allow soldiers âcomplete freedom of actionâ to defend their lives if attacked.
âThe commanders can allow use of firearms and have full authority to respond to extraordinary situations using all resources at their disposal.â
