Investors may want to hold on tight.
National Securitiesâ Art Hogan warns the volatility burst will affect the market for weeks.
He cites a laundry list of risks including the uptick of coronavirus cases paired with overbought conditions.
âThe fear of the unknown catches more volatility than anything,â the firmâs chief market strategist told CNBCâs âTrading Nationâ on Friday.
âVolatility is going to tick up a bit into summertime.â
Thursdayâs downdraft contributed to the marketâs biggest weekly loss since March. The Dow, S&P 500 and tech-heavy Nasdaq closed solidly higher on Friday, but it didnât come close to making up the losses.
But Hogan, who has spent almost four decades on Wall Street, and oversees $15 billion in assets, believes itâs no reason for investors with longer-term time horizons to cash out of stocks.
âHave a plan, stick to it, and have balance in the equity portion of your portfolio,â he said. âSticking to your plan is one of the best things you can do right now.â
His best advice is to strictly rebalance the classic 60% stock and 40% fixed income portfolios on a quarterly basis. Hogan also advocates a barbell approach to investing right now.

CNN now being investigated for racist claims?
Shocking!
Well, not really. CNN is more of a liberal clown show than ânews.â
Former CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien made stunning claims on Saturday that a network exec once told her she could only have the "right kind" of black guests on her show.
Reacting to the controversy that has rocked ABC News over the weekend, O'Brien reflected on her time at CNN and indicated that a network executive discouraged her to sit down with black radio host Roland Martin.
"This is an interesting read. Reminds me of the CNN exec who told me: 'Roland Martin isnât the âright kind ofâ Black person.' She didnât want me to book him on my show. L," O'Brien tweeted.

Blow, who is now a CNN contributor, reacted to O'Brien's claim about him on Sunday.
"I donât know how to take this 'good negro' talkâ¦" Blow wrote.
Martin also spoke out, tweeting "the internal s--- I had to encounter at CNN would blow folks away" and telling Blow, "the s--- said about me by certain people there behind closed doors..."
O'Brien, who left CNN in 2013 after 10 years at the network, was responding to a stunning report from Huffington Post's Yashar Ali that lays out damning accusations against Barbara Fedida, head of ABC News talent, and her treatment of black journalists at the network.
In 2018, during a contentious meeting about renewing âGood Morning Americaâ anchor Robin Roberts' contract, Fedida reportedly "asked what more Roberts could want and said it wasnât as if the network was asking Roberts to 'pick cotton.'"
Fedida also reportedly referred to "The View" co-host Sunny Hostin as "low rent."
Another source told Ali about a comment Fedida said about then-ABC News journalist Kendis Gibson, a black anchor, that ABC âspends more on toilet paper than we ever would on him."
There are no bigger hypocrites on this planet than liberals with a microphone.

As the âwoke crowd feverâ makes its way through business & sports, in a much more dramatic way than last season, the real casualties will be a whole new round of lost viewers. One prominent viewer you may recognize.
President Donald Trump has said he will not watch National Football League (NFL) or U.S. soccer team matches if players do not stand for the national anthem.
The U.S. Soccer Federation last week said it had dropped its requirement that players stand during the anthem, saying the policy was wrong and detracted from the Black Lives Matter movement.
The policy was adopted in 2017 after U.S. womenâs national team member Megan Rapinoe took a knee during the anthem before a game, in solidarity with NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who knelt to call attention to racial injustice.
âI wonât be watching much anymore,â Trump tweeted late on Saturday in response to a report of Republican congressman Matt Gaetz criticizing U.S. Soccerâs move.
âAnd it looks like the NFL is heading in that direction also, but not with me watching,â Trump said.
Trump has been a vocal critic of players kneeling during the anthem, previously tweeting that NFL players who did so were âdisrespecting our Country & our Flag.â

Ya gotta love the new spacesuits the astronauts wore on the SpaceX rocket.
Now it turns out the rocket itself was just as cool.
The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was a âpure flying machineâ compared to the space shuttle, according to the astronauts who rode it into space.
Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken piloted the first manned flight of the Falcon 9 on May 30. Each astronaut had previously been on on two space shuttle missions, and they spoke of their surprise at how comparatively smooth the SpaceX launch was.
âFrom the time the engines lit, the first two-and-a-half minutes to staging was about like we expected, except you can never simulate the Gs, so as the Gs built you could certainly feel those,â Hurley told Spaceflight Now. âWhat I thought was really neat was how sensitive we were to the throttling of the Merlin engines. That was really neat.
You could definitely sense that as we broke Mach 1.â
He added: âWe didnât even need to look at the speed. You could tell just by how the rocket felt, so itâs a very pure flying machine.â
How cool does al that sound?!
