Plus: Saudi Arabia builds a ski resort as part of its NEOM project. Dec 27, 2022
[Blueprint]( We are used to seeing news reports that an asteroid is approaching Earth or will hit us. But chances are this is the first time you hear that we will hit an asteroid - after the DART mission earlier this year. Yes, you didn't read it wrong. Scientists from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and NASA are planning to hit an asteroid called 2010 XC15 with radio waves. So, scientists also aim to test their preparation against Apophis, a dangerous asteroid that might hit our planet in 2029. Before diving deeper into this wild idea, letâs watch our video of the day and see how an engineer builds a cosplay costume by incorporating actual spacesuit technology. Good morning. Iâm Mert, an Editor at IE. This is The Blueprint. Letâs get started. Last Sunday, Blueprint subscribers heard about how a 17-year-old revolutionized the EV motor. While it has no intention of hitting us, itâs us who will hit the asteroid with a radio pulse. Scientists at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and NASA want to examine the 2010 XC15 space rock to test their preparation against Apophis. This dangerous asteroid might hit our planet in 2029. It is believed that on April 13, 2029, Apophis will be ten times closer to Earth than the moon. The researchers will use the HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program) array to shoot 9.6 megahertz radio waves at the 2010 XC15 asteroid. HAARP is a government-funded research program that generally studies the ionosphere (the part of Earthâs atmosphere at 50 to 400 miles above the surface). However, this will be the first time it will be employed to examine an asteroid. Located 31 miles (50 km) off the Gulf of Aqaba coast, Trojena will span an area of 540 square miles (1,400 square kilometers) of the mountains in the north of the country. With the elevations in the region ranging from 4,900 feet (1,500 m) to 8,500 feet (2,600 m), the temperatures in certain parts of the mountain range fall below zero degrees Celsius in the winter. The team at NEOM wants to tap into this natural event to build an outdoor ski resort in the region and even host the Asian Winter Games in 2029 if the country can submit a winning bid. The study team employed RNA sequencing to determine how cancer cells respond to bacteria at the cellular and molecular levels. They first developed a theoretical hypothesis on which molecular pathways in cancer cells contributed to the cells' resistance to bacterium treatment, and then to test it, they used current cancer medications to block these pathways. The results demonstrated that combining the drugs with bacterial toxins is more successful in killing lung cancer cells. The U.S. outright [rejected this request]( to avoid escalating tensions between Moscow and Washington. The conflict in Ukraine, which has been going on for ten months, has seen the Ukrainian defense supported by the U.S. and its NATO allies.
